The color scheme from the photo really went with these beautiful flowers. The greens and teals in both of our outfits help balance out the leaf colors and flower shades. I nestled these under my photo to help draw attention inward. My photo is layered on a Echo Park pink patterned paper which isn't quite the right shade for this layout, but it will do and a Freckled Fawn square doily. These are my guilty pleasure! I wish I had purchased more when I had the chance!


I managed to do a teeny tiny bit of mixed media on this layout with a fun polka dot stencil from Echo Park. I used my Heidi Swapp gold modeling paste to bring more of the metallic color in. My title is this fun acetate square from Pink Paislee. The word "lovely" is actually in a hot pink foil which better coordinates with the blooms, but it wouldn't pick up well on camera.


I did very light embellishing on this layout since the flowers took up a lot of visual space. I used a couple of chipboard pieces from American Crafts Dear Lizzy, some Heidi Swapp puffy stickers, and some die cuts from Pink Paislee's Cest La Vie collection.

This double layered stenciling look can work with a multitude of patterns and mediums. I decided to layer my Fiskars leaf stencil on top of my Heidi Swapp diagonal stencil. I simply taped them down with some washi tape and started to use my ink blending tool with my Tim Holtz Distress inks. I used the following colors to get a nice blended look: Tea Dye, Peacock Feathers, and Lucky Clover. I think I will be using this technique on more layouts often. My poor distress ink want to be used more!


To finish this challenge of using three stencils, I grabbed my Heidi Swapp polka dot stencil. I ran some white Liquitex modeling paste though it for some added texture. As you can see, some of my stencils added color while another one was used to provide texture. Stencils are great tools to build your stash with.


My title which happens to be partially transparent sits on top of some of these stenciled parts. I think it looks so cool! This Pink Paislee die cut letters are awesome. I paired the "hello" with an American Crafts/Amy Tangerine word that reads "sweet" and lastly, added the word "nature" using my Teresa Collins tiny alphabet stickers. They are such a great size for so many different styles of projects.


My photo's layers are quite simple. I used one layer of green patterned paper and then a yellow mustard colored cardstock. I think the yellow and green colors of this spread help the photo pop more. I also included a bunch of layers of washi tape under my photo which got mostly covered up in the end, but that's okay.


I used some very large diecuts on this layout which Is usually now my style. I think that these Recollection leaves and florals are absolutely beautiful and while they don't completely match the scenery in the photo, it gives the same feeling of exploration of nature. I also used an awesome We R Memory Keepers journaling diecut which brings a small pop of blue in.

The two photos of this layout are kind of special. We visited this mine in late spring of 2017, now scrapbooking this memory in late fall, I have come to find out that the main exhibiting building burnt down. While I never took photos inside (gift shop, safety videos, etc) I'm glad I have this snapshot of the outside during the last time we visited. Sometimes it is very important to document your surroundings since you never know when they might change abruptly.


I elevated the smaller photo on some fun foam to give more dimension. I created a cluster on top of the photo using this Simple Stories diecut banner as a base. I layered a Simple Stories canvas star and various sequins on top. There is a thin strip of Scotch washi tape peaking out from under the photo layer.


I wanted to create an embellishment cluster that spilled out of the folded paper edge. To do this I created a sprinkling to the top of the page. I used more of the Simple Stories canvas stars, some Studio Calico wood veneers, and Project Life wood veneers to start.


To add more interest to this expanding cluster, I use Tim Holtz phrase stickers. Lastly, I used a plethora of beautiful sequins from Wild Whisper and Spiegel Mom Scraps sprinkled throughout the cluster. I love incorporating sequins in to my layouts. They don't always add sparkle and shine, sometimes it is nice just to have a tiny bit of color and circular elements.


My title is made of mixed media! This was made using a stencil from DCWV and some Heidi Swapp modeling paste. I paired it with a small embellishment cluster using a floral border sticker from October Afternoon. Next to that I created a cluster using a Jillibean Soup tag sticker and a Crafty Pocket flair piece.

I included sequins from several places in this shaker pocket. I used Wild Whisper, Spiegel Mom Scraps, Kat Scrappiness, and Darice. There are so many sequin shops out there, but I try to support as many as I can with my addiction. If you would like to know where a specific one came from I would be happy to tell you. To complete this card I used a giant red puffy heart sticker and some Tim Holtz tiny phrase stickers.


The other two pockets of this layout remained simple. The shaker pocket is the star of the show here. My top right pocket features a photo of the sign for the donut shop we visited. Then, the last photo is a beautiful photograph of what we ordered! The donuts were yummy, but I don't think I'm a fan of a hot donut. I prefer my donuts room temperature instead. I used two Elle's Studio label pieces to created a little cluster. I added a wood veneer and a puffy heart for some dimension.

I didn't need to spell out where we were and what we were doing for these photos, so instead of including filler cards, I just had a title card and a functional card which we will discuss later on. I used a stencil to create a fun pattern on the back of my title card. I used this "Explore" chipboard piece to really capture the feeling of these pages. I included a couple of other embellishments like wood veneer and phrase stickers for more interest.


The second page is more practically functional. I really love including memorabilia when I can. You'll see that in my Disney album and some of my regular scrapbooking pages too. Making memorabilia functional is also a key aspect in my crafting. For example, I had this map of the zoo that didn't fit in any of the pre-made pocket pages that I owned, so I had to tackle it from a different angle. I wanted it to be very easily accessible. This means no gluing it down or cutting up the map. Instead, I used my favorite technique, which involves pockets!



I wanted to use this portion of the bag to add some matching items from the other pocket page. I stuck with the green color scheme and included another Heidi Swapp sticker (star and geotag). I also included a baby title using Maggie Holmes puffy alphabet stickers. I used another Simple Stories phrase sticker as well.


I wanted to include a photo of how easy it is to use this pocket and pull out the map. I think it is one of the easiest ways to incorporate memorabilia on to a layout. I used a piece of patterned paper from Pebbles' Garden Party collection to mat my photos. I created three little clusters near my photos. The top left includes a paper clip from KI Memories, a wood veneer butterfly, and Freckled Fawn enamel dots. There's also purple washi tape that runs underneath my photos and peeks out on the other side.


In the bottom left, I have a cluster next to the title. The title is made out of Thickers from Amy Tangerine's collection. They aren't exactly puffy stickers, but they are a cool texture. I used a bunch of the Tim Holtz occasion word stickers on this layout. There's only so many times I'll be able to use Easter themed word stickers, so I threw a bunch on. I also included more of the Freckled Fawn enamel dots.


The largest cluster is to the right of my photos. I used a blue watercolor tag from Target as the base. I used a different purple washi tape for another pop of purple. I then layered a Simple Stories die cut on top of that that reads "love". I found the perfect flair to use on this layout from April Lilli. I included another Tim Holtz phrase sticker and a heart wood veneer to complete this cluster.

I wanted to try another technique using the Crayola markers. I decided to try and do a watercolor background look. I took my Ranger craft mat and scribbled various shades of blue and a little bit of purple and spritzed on water. I took a piece of watercolor paper cut to 4" x 5 1/4" and placed it directly on top of the colored droplets. You could mix the water and marble the colors, but I just placed it straight down without further alteration.


I was able to get several watercolor panels from one round of the water droplets. It's great to have some future cards already started! If you guys would like to see a video tutorial of this Crayola watercoloring technique let me know in the comments. I let the background completely dry before moving on to the next step. Then, I cleaned my board of leftover water and started a new watercolor process using brown. I wanted my little otter to have a watercolored look too. I did the same exact process and set it aside to dry.


Once everything was dry, I started stamping! I stamped a small wave on the watercolor background using Memento black ink. I also stamped my little otter in black ink and fussy cut him out. Be sure to let your watercolor pieces fully dry before stamping and cutting. Your stamped image could bleed and your paper could tear if you attempt to perform those actions without the paper being dry.


Lastly, to complete my stamping on this card. I stamped the sentiment "I'd be otterly lost without you" on the inside. I wanted to add a little more interest to the outside of the card so I sprinkled some sequins on top. I hope you enjoyed this technique idea. I started by using the back of an ugly piece of cardstock and applying Dina Wakley clear gesso. Gesso helps the pigment of your mixed media items sit on top of the paper and stay vibrant instead of soaking in. You just spread a thin coat on to your paper and let it dry and then you can apply as many mixed media items that you want. This also helps with the warping of paper, but it doesn't completely prevent it.


I used several items for the rainbow mixed media portion. I used hot pink Heidi Swapp color shine, a red gelato, an orange gelato, butter Heidi Swapp color shine, patina Heidi Swapp color shine, ocean Heidi Swapp color shine, navy Heidi Swapp color shine, and lastly a purple gelato. You can easily do this method with watercolors which is probably a more cost effective route.


To create this effect, I first marked a circle on my background on where my photo cluster would be. Then, I started with hot pink and put a glob of liquid on the edge of the circle. Then, using a straw, I lightly blew the color out to give this radial look. I didn't let each color dry before moving on to the next which gave me a blended look in some spots which I liked a lot.


I printed this photo as a 4x4, but it actually just squished down my 4x6 which I didn't expect, but I made it work. I mounted the 4x4 photo onto some light gray cardstock. I put some foam behind it for extra dimension as well. I used a Freckled Fawn square doily to add some frill. My title for this layout is actually from a Simple Stories diecut piece that says "Yup..this is the good stuff" which I absolutely love. I also included a flair from Freckled Fawn to the left of my photo.

My white cardstock background took some rough mixed media on it. Although I did gesso my paper, it wasn't the highest quality and I did saturate it with water. It's weak and curling at the edges, but it's still alive! I used my watercolors and the packaging technique to achieve this look on the background. If you don't have the color paper  you want, why not just create it? I love how it shoes so many different textures while still being flat and workable. You can see some streaks, puddles, and marbling in the background. If you do plan to do mixed media techniques on your background, be sure to have paper towels and a heat gun on hand. Otherwise, you'll have a mess everywhere and you'll be waiting a while for dry time. I used a stencil from the Wild Whisper shop and some gold modeling paste for additional texture. My tutorial is below in this video, but I also have more details to share with you.


The hardest part of this layout was the embellishing. I knew that I didn't have a lot of purple in my stash and I could've made some more purple elements, but I wanted to think more outside of the box. I ended up using some wood veneer from Maggie Holmes for my title after I had painted it purple using acrylic paint.


I created a cluster around my title piece by first layering a small white doily underneath my title piece. I also layered a small gold patterned tag from Joann's under the right side. I tucked an arrow paper clip from Freckled Fawn to add more emphasis. To complete this cluster, I used sequins designed by Spiegel Mom Scraps for Wild Whisper and some gold sequins.


Next, I dove into some washi tape! I have a ton, ton, ton of purple washi tape and I have no idea why. I used one gold washi tape to help ground my layout. I put a long strip at the bottom of my page. I also included a short strip under my title piece (which you can't really see),and a strip under my photo. I layered my photo of my cute cat on some light purple patterned paper from K & Company.


This layout is simple, but the purple background really packs a punch! Do you find yourself scrapping with purple often? I know that I rarely use it on my own, but I do like to use it along side of blues and yellows. I hope you have been enjoying this series. I started my layout with a bright blue cardstock background. I have slowly realized that this is the easiest way for me to feature a color on a layout. I find that my patterned papers have too many colors in them and didn't suit the challenge well. I really bashed a lot of embellishments that I have been meaning to use on this layout as well. It's a simple layout with lots of tiny layering elements.


I started my scrapbook layout with a little bit of mixed media. I used a stencil from Target and some white modeling paste to add a lot of fun texture and movement on the layout.  The arrow pattern on the stencil is really what creates the movement, but since I also left some areas not completely filled in, your eye will follow the dwindling pattern all the way across the page.


Let's jump right into clusters now! In the top left I used washi tape as a base for my cluster. I also wanted to use some stamps on this layout and thought that this Lawn Fawn cat playing represented my cat well. I simply stamped it and watercolored the image. I used an Elle's Studio cut apart that says "My Favorite People" at the top. I sprinkled some silver glitter enamel dots, wood veneer stars, and blue glitter stars from Freckled Fawn to finish off this cluster.


Now to move on to the title cluster! The official title is "play time" which is made out of a Freckled Fawn wood veneer piece and some silver glitter chipboard stickers. I layered my title on a ombre blue tag from Target. Target clearanced out their summer $1 section last year and I went to town when things were on sale for .50! To the left of my title, I layered some puffy stickers from Paper House on to my photo that read "Best Friends". I used a chipboard clock from BoBunny to go along with the title. I used another puffy sticker heart from Paper House to bring in some more white. Lastly for this cluster, I used a Freckled Fawn chipboard word sticker that reads "I. can't. even." which is so cute!


In this picture you can tell that my photo cluster is up on foam to give it dimension. The doily tucker under helps tone down the bright blue background. I used a Neat and Tangled stamp set for the "Practically Purr-fect" banner. I included more chipboard and wood veneer stars and enamel dots. I hope you enjoyed this week's Color Theory video! Yellow is definitely not my favorite color, nor one that I find often in my everyday life. Luckily, when we were discussing the series, we decided to group gold into this color scheme as well. Below is my process video for this really fun to make layout!


This layout features a photo from when we went to see Wicked off broadway. I am still very proud of the title on this layout because it mixes so many fonts and it is a play on words. I used a Thickers set, Tim Holtz tiny letter stickers, and a Heidi Swapp wood veneer word to create my title. I absolutely love the contrast the black brings to this yellow layout.

I kept the matting on my photo minimal. I used white and black cardstock to add more contrast against the dark photo. I wanted something that reminded me of this experience as part of the design elements. We went to see the musical at the Landmark Theater which is a historically beautiful theater with gold walls and ceilings and mirrors and chandeliers and it is so majestic. I scattered various bits around in the opposite diagonal direction of the modeling paste to add more interest.


I created a small cluster to the left of my photo using a Freckled Fawn date ticket sticker and a Pink Paislee puffy hexagon sticker.


Here you can see the rest of my title. I included some Tim Holtz tiny phrase stickers to add more interest as well. I also included some Echo Park enamel dots in yellow and black. One thing I would like to mention is that if you're doing mixed media like I did where it adds dimension, you'll want to have several adhesives near by. Adhering this Heidi Swapp wood veneer word was difficult, especially since it overlaps the mixed media.


In this last photo you can see all of the bit I used in the top right and bottom left sections. These items include Thickers foam stars, Freckled Fawn chipboard glitter stars, Pink Paislee puffy stickers, Tim Holtz label stickers, gold Heidi Shine splatters, and of course enamel dots.
