I started by stamping and coloring my images. I stamped the mermaid, turtle, and rock on Canson watercolor paper using my stamping tool and Verasfine Onyx Black ink. I used various colors of my Zig Clean Color Real Brush Pens for coloring in these images. For the mermaid, I used #63 Ochre on her hair, #71 Flesh Color for her face and body, and lastly #31 Cobalt Blue and #82 Purple for her tail and top. My little turtle friend uses #44 Deep Green and #47 May Green. Then the little rock uses #92 blue gray. I trimmed these out once they were fully dried. There's a video tutorial coming soon showing how I like to color these images using my water brush pen.

Kuretake Clean Color Real Brush Watercolour Brush Pens (Set Of 48 Colours)

I started by building my base and background elements. The base of my card is made from 110 lb white cardstock cut to 4 1/4" x 8 1/2" and scored at 5 1/4". Next, I moved on to building my colorful background piece. I began by cutting a piece of regular white cardstock to 3" x 4". This allows it to not be too overwhelming and have a spacious white border.


This card design is a great way to bash some of your washi stash. Essentially, you take different colors and patterns of washi tape and line them all up. Super simple and it adds such a powerful pop of color! These washi tapes are from a variety of sources, but most of the pinks are by American Crafts, the bright blue is from Scotch, silver sparkle is from Recollections, and the light blue is from Jot. The key to mixing and matching washi tapes are colors. Luckily, I have had some sets that match so well like the pink ones seen here. I would include a maximum of three color choices (here I use two plus a neutral (silver)). This technique can be applied to other types of projects too! After all of my washi was trimmed, I moved on to coloring my images. I stamped these two My Favorite Things images on a small piece of Canson watercolor paper. I used my Hampton Art Stamping Tool and Versamark Black ink for great impressions. I used a couple of different colored Zig Clean Color Real Brush Markers including #28 Pale Pink, #21 Light Carmine, #26 Light Pink, #64 Oatmeal, and #36 Light Blue. These colors are amazingly vibrant and I simply filled in the images.


To add a little extra pizzazz, I put the cut out images on foam adhesive and added a tiny bit of Diamond Stickles on the gifts. To complete the outside of the card, I stamped an accompanying sentiment and added some Paper Studio sparkle enamel dots.


I created a fun little surprise on the inside of the card because let's face it, these bears are way too cute! I added another pop of color using another strip of washi tape. We all like a good deal on stamps, but these from overseas retailers are not even close to half of the quality of USA designers. Next time you are looking for stamps start with these great American retailers before hopping on and checking out other places like I did. While I made the mistake of buying fake designs, I don't want you to as well. Some of the stamps and dies on these overseas websites are original designs, so those are great and at a very low price. But that is no excuse to buy these artificial designs. If you do by the artificial versions like I have, be sure to point the people you share your creations with to the true artists, like I am doing here. Mama Elephant has expanded their line to include more cost friendly stamp and die sets at the big box stores. A 40% or 50% off coupon allows these awesome sets to fit in to anyone's budget. I have a couple of those sets and absolutely adore them.


Now the details of this card are pretty simple. I used two different shades of Recollections green cardstock and my stitched hill dies to create a cute backdrop for my characters to sit upon. I used my stamping tool from Hampton Arts to make sure these poorly made stamps put enough ink to the paper. It took several sounds of stamping for it to make a crisp image.


I took my watercolor pencils (minus the water) and lightly shaded the stamped images in. Once I had finished the ocean floor, I had a hard time picking out colors for my fish. Since I didn't add a watery background, I decided that the fish should be blue. These fish took multiple layers of ink and you can still tell that they are not as smooth. I left them the way they are and moved on to the sentiment. This sentiment came in the same set and I wanted it to pop. I decided to use Memento black ink to help make it pop out.


The final finishing touches on this card were very simple. I stamped some very light blue bubbles near my fish at the top to give the card some movement. Lastly, I added clear sequins to add little hints of shine to the ocean floor. Almost as if it was sunken treasure! I enjoyed making this one layer card. Do you make one layer cards often? To create this card I started with a card base that is A2 sized. You'll want to cut your cardstock to 8 1/2" x 5 1/2" and score it at 4 1/4". Your total card should end up being 4 1/4" x 5 1/2". I'm doing a portrait oriented card this time around. I knew that I wanted to have a lot of texture in the background, but not too much bulk. After thinking and sifting through my stash, I decided upon this cork paper. This paper is by DCWV and came in a couple of different colors and patterns. I simply used my paper trimmer to cut the cork down to 4" x 5 1/4".


The next step is to add embellishments! I have had these little globe embellishment (from the Target dollar spot) forever! I thought this was the perfect sentiment to pair with this globe. Once I figured out that I wanted to use the entire globe, I glued it into the center of my card. Next, I stamped this lovely sentiment from Whimsy Stamps. I stamped it with Memento black ink and cut it into a fun banner shape.


After gluing everything together, I had to add one finishing touch! These enamel dots from Whimsy Stamps were the perfect color combo to match my little globe. While it was drying, I stamped two adorable images from the Lawn Fawn cat stamp set. I stamped the cat and the bed using Memento black ink on to watercolor paper. Then, I used my watercolor set and colored them in loosely. I wanted brighter colors on these images so they would pop against the background piece. I then set those aside to dry. While I as waiting for everything to dry, I stamped out my sentiment. I used Memento black ink n the phrase "meow you doin'?" on a small strip of white cardstock. I added a slanted edge at the end to give it more interest.


After the background was completely dry (I left mine overnight), I wanted to add more detail to the background. I used this paw print stamp from the same Lawn Fawn sent and heat embossed them with WOW! gold glitter embossing powder. They add just a hint of fun on this cute card. Lastly, I assembled everything together. To add even more texture and interest, I used some embroidery floss behind me main image.


These pictures don't do the best justice at showing off the beautiful soft colors in the background piece, so you'll just have to try the technique out for yourself. I wanted to try another technique using the Crayola markers. I decided to try and do a watercolor background look. I took my Ranger craft mat and scribbled various shades of blue and a little bit of purple and spritzed on water. I took a piece of watercolor paper cut to 4" x 5 1/4" and placed it directly on top of the colored droplets. You could mix the water and marble the colors, but I just placed it straight down without further alteration.


I was able to get several watercolor panels from one round of the water droplets. It's great to have some future cards already started! If you guys would like to see a video tutorial of this Crayola watercoloring technique let me know in the comments. I let the background completely dry before moving on to the next step. Then, I cleaned my board of leftover water and started a new watercolor process using brown. I wanted my little otter to have a watercolored look too. I did the same exact process and set it aside to dry.


Once everything was dry, I started stamping! I stamped a small wave on the watercolor background using Memento black ink. I also stamped my little otter in black ink and fussy cut him out. Be sure to let your watercolor pieces fully dry before stamping and cutting. Your stamped image could bleed and your paper could tear if you attempt to perform those actions without the paper being dry.


Lastly, to complete my stamping on this card. I stamped the sentiment "I'd be otterly lost without you" on the inside. I wanted to add a little more interest to the outside of the card so I sprinkled some sequins on top. I hope you enjoyed this technique idea. You'll want to score your 12x12 piece at 4" increments. So there will be four lines in total. If you're using a scoring board, you'll want to score at 4" and 8" on two sides. Then, you'll want to grab a pair of scissors! I know that it's sometimes hard to follow along without visuals, so feel free to look up other tutorials to get a better gist. You'll use your scissors to cut two lines on opposite sides all the way up to the middle panel. You'll also want to trim that middle flap you just created by cutting off a quarter inch diagonal.


You just fold up all of the sides and glue them together to get your base! For the lid of this box you'll need a 6x6 piece of paper. I used a double sided on again but this one is from Doodle Bug. You'll score each side of your piece of paper at the 1" mark. Then, trimming one side of the small square you created on each side of the box. You will simply glue these flaps up to create a perfect fitting lid.

Once I had all of the feathers colored in, I let them completely dry. I trimmed them out loosely and ended up with three to use on this card. I created a card base of 110 lb white cardstock that I cut to A2 size. Then, I cut a piece a Kraft color cardstock to 5 1/2" x 4".




To finish off the card, I used a variety of enamel dots to match the colors of my feathers. I used some from Recollections and some from Freckled Fawn. Hello crafty friends! Welcome back to my blog for another card creation card share. Today, I am sharing a vibrant card with a great message. I recently picked up this Mama Elephant stamp set and I'm so glad I got to use it! I started with an A2 sized card base made out of 110 lb kraft cardstock. This card is 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" when folded. Then, I took a piece of 110 lb white cardstock and cut it to 4" x 5 1/4" to create my background.

Once that was assembled I worked on my little image set here. The front of this card features three different stamps from three different manufacturers! I find it fun to be able to mix and match stamp sets like these ones to get a perfect customized handmade card for the recipient. I used a tree stamp from Mint Owl Studios, the little pup from Mama Elephant, and the sentiment is from Lawn Fawn! I'll try and link all of these stamp sets below so you can check them out. I simply just stamped my images and then colored them in using my watercolors. For the sentiment, I stamped it in VersaMark and embossed it with clear embossing powder to give a darker gray look.

I stamped the sentiment on some colored paper from the same paper pack from KI Memories in black Memento ink. I used my set of stitched rectangle dies to cut out all of my layers. This adds so much detail to my cards and I can't wait to buy stitched circles next! All of the papers on this card are from KI Memories.


I decided to put foam behind my main image and sentiment to add more interest. Lastly, I embossed the background using an embossing folder from Cuttlebug. This card was for a dear friend of mine and she really loved it, I hope you loved it too! Thanks for stopping by!

Masculine cards can be hard for me to create. I have a lot of girly items in my stash, so this was a tiny bit harder. It is still a little girly from the scripty fonts and the glitter embossing powder, but I had to! My card starts with a base of 110lb white cardstock cut to 4 1/4" x 11" and folded in half to make it an A2 sized card. I really wanted to add something to the background, but didn't know what to do. Eventually I found this is light brown washi tape and created a background with small strips. It's an easy way to use up that washi and to add more interest!



Next, I used two different sizes of my stitched rectangle dies to make the main layers. I cut them out of kraft paper and a piece of patterned paper from DCWV. I wanted to used this new stamp set from Lawn Fawn called "Meow You Doin'". Of course I love this stamp set because it is full of puns! I stamped this cat image using Memento black ink and colored it with colored pencils. I tried to make it look like my cats, but I didn't have the best color. To emphasize this cute kitty I used some chipboard brackets. I was also hoping this would add some more masculinity, but it didn't really.




Lastly, to decorate the front of the card I used a couple of things. One of these things is so old I cannot even tell you where I got them from. I'm also pretty positive that I have never used any of these miniature white felt stars. I sprinkled them around in different clusters. I believe they were made by KI Memories. I also used enamel dots from Echo Park in two different colors to add contrast.


To finally finish the card, I added another sentiment on the inside. This is also from the same Lawn Fawn stamp set. I thought that just the sentiment was a little boring, so I grabbed this little paw print and scattered them around. That finishes it up! I hope you enjoyed this alternative father's day card.
