Open Sky - 12x12 Multi Photo Layout // Episode O - Summer of Stories

Hi friends and welcome back to a new week of Summer of Stories! I think this one is definitely one of my favorite layouts so far! I'm also so excited to be stretching my creative abilities by using Christmas supplies on non-Christmas layouts! Let's dive right in!

As you can tell from the layout, it is very blue-based. I find when I'm working with items that are in a theme, splitting them up from other colors can be helpful. You get to take that color and create your own layout color scheme! I talk about all of this in the video down below!

Although this is a bit of a stretch for Episode O, I went with Open Sky. Thinking outside of the box on this one and you can too! Check out the story list download down below for more inspiration!

As you can see on this page there are a ton of frames! I often don't reach for frames because I think they're always weird sizes I can never seem to fit on a photo! Here I use them to create bounding areas for embellishment clusters, journaling, and titles!

I really like how there are very few paper layers on this page. The colors of the photos are busy, so I wanted to keep things simple. The embellishment clusters, for the most part, are monochromatic with blues. This helps keep the focus on the photos themselves.

Naughty or Nice - 8x8 Layout Process! // Episode N - Summer of Stories

Welcome back for another episode of Summer of Stories! Hard to believe we are already on letter N, we're over halfway through! I hope you've enjoyed it so far along with the free printables and the opportunity to get additional content over on my Patreon! Don't forget to share your projects on Instagram with #SummerOfStories2019! Let's dive into this project.

This spread is an 8x8 chipboard album spread. I decided to use the remaining photos from my 2016 album to make a mini album for my brother and sister-in-law. These were really simple layouts to create. I covered the chipboard with some DCWV paper, but did that off camera. I have several process videos from a previous chipboard album where I show my process on how I do that. Below is the process video for these pages that explains my embellishing choices and more!

These two pages would be great as singular designs or together! As you can see, they mimic a similar design. The main title above the photo, main cluster to the bottom left of the photo. I mentioned in the video how I planned on not including any journaling spots because this is just an alternative for a photo album for their family. I find Christmas pages to generally be self-explanatory through the photos.

Merry Moments - 6x8 Pocket Page Layout Process // Episode M - Summer of Stories

Well, this is the first pocket page for Summer of Stories! I really enjoy working on 6x8 sizes so I decided to finally finish up my 2016 Christmas Mini Album. This page just so happened to spark an M story, so I rolled with it for this episode. Merry is a word that truly defines the Christmas spirit. It is simply contagious and I hope that this makes you want to scrap a merry moment too!

I think the key for why this layout feels different is really the buttons. The buttons add such a whimsical charm thanks to their brighter tones. I also love the dimension they bring to the page! Below is the process video where I explain a bit more about these photos and the design process.

This was a quick double pager! When I am already scrapping Christmas, I often stick with Christmas until I get sick of it or bored. I'm so happy to have some themed pocket page cards because it makes it that much quicker and easier! But sometimes, a cute 3x4 cut off of a patterned paper can help finish a pocket!

Legendary Cookies - 12x12 Layout Process // Episode L - Summer of Stories

Welcome back, friends! Today is another episode of Summer of Stories and also a collab for Crafty Christmas in July! So get your holiday outfits on and let's get to scrapping!

This page, as most of mine are, is a huge conglomerate of supplies. Sometimes I can't believe the items I manage to mix and match. Between Wild Whisper, Elle's Studio, Echo Park, Pebbles, and more, hopefully, there's something in here that piques your interest so you can be inspired to scrap! This page started out with a bold background paper. I really enjoy mixing and matching patterns, so I rarely go for a plain cardstock background. I paired this with a bold graphic script print and then simpler items to keep contrast up, but busyness down.

The natural elements with the wood grain started from wanting to use the kraft alphabet for the title. I used wood buttons, and wood grain die-cuts to give it this natural feel. This also helps add a ton of dimension to a rather flat layout.

Overall, this is a heavy black, white, and red layout with accents of kraft/natural and green. I prefer green as an accent color in this particular color scheme because it is a subtler color in the photo.

Kitty Love - 12x12 Layout Process // Episode K - Summer of Stories

I'm back this week with another episode of Summer of Stories! This time we're exploring Episode K. Now this is a tricky one. Much easier for those with a K name, like myself, but as for story topics, it is a little harder. I continued on with my theme of Christmas products on non-Christmas layouts, so this one was two challenges in one!

The simplest choice for Episode K was some kitty pictures! Now, combining that with Christmas products was not the easiest. Luckily, I had this mint and pink collection from Cheeky Studio that was a perfect fit! This may seem like die-cut confetti but think of it more as creating your own patterned paper. I hope you enjoy the process video below to learn more about this layout.

I'm glad I got to use some of the coordinating 3x4 and 4x6 cards from the collection on this page as well. I did have to pair some non-Christmas items to pull this layout theme off, but it worked out well in the end! For the title, I used a Vicki Boutin die-cut and some Teresa Collins alphabet block stickers. I layered these right on top of the journaling card. I also created a small cluster with die-cuts from the collection and paired it with some resin flowers.

I created another small cluster in the bottom left of the photo cluster. I added this little flair from Humble and Create that says 'sleep in'. I paired another resin flower in to this cluster to give more color to this corner of the page. I added a doodle border to the entire layout to make it feel more complete.

Christmas Joy - 12x12 Layout Process // Episode J - Summer of Stories

July 4th already?! Man, this summer is simply flying by. I hope you all have a fantastic time celebrating Independence Day and in to the weekend. Today I am not going red, white, and blue, but more of red and green. It marks the start of my participation in the Crafty Christmas in July hop created by Heather's Crafty Life!

I got the opportunity to mix old and new on this layout with so many different brands. It always makes me happy to see different elements working together to create a cohesive page! While I mixed and matched to my heart's content, I had to be cautious of clashing shades of reds and greens. Luckily, the particular background paper from Pinkfresh Studio had two shades of red and two shades of green. This helped diversify the additional color options for the page.

Like I mentioned before, a lot of old and new on this layout. I managed to use two chipboard pieces from an old K & Company set by Brenda Walton. I somehow used 5 pieces of chipboard on this page without even really trying. When it comes to chipboard, I just love it!

In honor of Episode J, I decided to scrap a Christmas photo of joy. To be honest, the hard part was picking which photos to put with this concept! There's a lot of joyous moments that happen during the holidays!

I finished off the page with a small cluster in the upper left to help balance the bottom half of the page. The silver snowflakes and enamels dots help add some pops of color to help direct the eye as well. I hope you certainly enjoyed the first page for my Crafty Christmas in July!

International Trip - 12x12 Layout Process // Episode I - Summer of Stories

It's hard to believe it is already July! June flew by and we're already into the second month of Summer. While I am having a blast making summer memories, we're cooling it down this month as we dive into some chillier supplies. This month I'll be focusing on using some of my Christmas stash up. I have tons of 12x12 paper, embellishments, stickers, and more. So, I'd like to put a dent in it. Each week I'll be sharing one Christmas layout and one non-Christmas layout with Christmas supplies. So, get ready!

Episode I is a really fun one. At first, I struggled with this letter. What the heck even begins with 'I'? Then I stumbled across this photo, ahh yes, international! Easy enough. Now pairing this with my Christmas themed supplies would surely be a challenge. Check out the process video below to learn more!

I found myself to be inspired by these non-traditional color schemes from Fancy Pants and Pinkfresh Studio. I decided to run with this pink and teal emphasis with accents of gold and red. I even dipped my toe back into mixed media for this page, woo! I used Heidi Swapp Texture Paste in metallic gold through a Teresa Collins triangle stencil. I then added some drips from my Tim Holtz Distress Paint.

I used a few sheets of the Christmas papers to mat my photo. The bright red feels a teeny bit Christmasy, but you don't really notice unless you really look. The layers of tags and tabs gives it more of an office vibe and avoids Christmas altogether. I mixed in a few paper clips to give it texture and dimension.

I think the accents from outside of my kit really helped bring it together. I used some leatherette stickers from Pinkfresh Studio, a Paige Evans puffy sticker, and a Paper Studio acrylic globe. What really pulled the color scheme together however were the Christmas elements!

I think having a smaller title like this helps ground the page. It gives a place for your eye to rest and just be amongst all of the crazy layers and textures happening on this page. These stickers are from a sticker book I had picked up at Walmart! A great find!

Overall, I absolutely love how this page came out. It doesn't feel Christmasy at all based on first glance. I hope this inspires you to look at your Christmas supplies a bit differently and give this a whirl. Thanks for stopping by!

Fort Henry - 12x12 Double Page Layout // Episode H - Summer of Stories

This time, I'm really scrapbooking a summer memory, woo! Although it is last summer, this adventure was a really, really fun one! I debated making a mini-album for our day trip to Canada last year but decided I needed to do some 12x12 pages instead.

These awesome vintage looking papers are from We R Memory Keepers Jet Set Paper Pad. I am so glad I picked this up at Tuesday Morning a few months ago. I have loved using it for travel pages and more! You can see the full pages at the end of the post, but for now here's some detail shots.

These tag cut aparts from the paper pad were instrumental in keeping the color scheme and cohesiveness of this page perfect. While I did introduce some other elements from other brands, these were the bases of the clusters on these pages. Since they matched the colors of the papers they were placed on top of, I made sure to use foam adhesive to give them some dimension.

Some of the final touches for these pages came from cream and natural colored elements. I opted for no white on this layout to keep the color scheme. The wood veneer definitely brought out more of the natural and rustic elements of the photos. A wood veneer title is certainly something I don't get to do often, but I love it! Those Momenta wood stickers were awesome!

Yes, those are letter stickers on top of my photos! Eek! I was nervous to put them there, as I had only done it a handful of times before, but I'm so happy I did. I struggled to find a place where these orange stickers could go since they so easily faded into the background. Then they ended up here, on top of the white space in these photos.

Goofy Boy - 12x12 Layout Process Video // Episode G - Summer of Stories

Hi there crafty people! Welcome back to another week of #SummerOfStories2019! Episode G is another pup themed layout, but on the terms of goofiness. I really adore how this color scheme came out and it's not one I work with often. I hope you enjoy this episode!

I think what's different about this layout than most of the other ones I've done recently is that all of the embellishments are very small. I used exclusively stickers for all of the clusters on this page, which is crazy! The process video is down below where I show you everything that goes into this page.

The title was pretty much decided before I even started the page. However, the font was difficult to pick out. I really wish I had a yellow font that was more prominent to use, but I opted for black instead. I'm glad to be diving into new products and not being afraid to use them, but I wish I could use my supplies faster sometimes!

I think the "u r so cute" cluster might be my favorite. I think it looks so dainty and throwing all of the stickers on somehow didn't make it seem like a sticker sneeze! If you're having difficulty layering stickers, try throwing some foam adhesive under one of them to give it more dimension.

Remember that not all clusters have to be the same size. Smaller clusters can be just as impactful as some larger ones. And don't forget that you don't have to do crazy mixing and matching to create impressive clusters, one sticker set can do!

Fall Vibes - 12x12 Layout Process // Episode F - Summer of Stories

A Fall layout isn't something I would necessarily feel geared to scrapbook about in the midst of summer, but this color scheme and photos just spoke to me! So much so, that I did another Fall layout exclusive for my Patrons over on Patreon this week! Check it out here if you're interested in seeing real-time process videos and so much more!

The autumn vibes were strong with this one. The photos were rich with autumnal colors which made it even easier to work with this paper pad from Craft Smith Co. I really enjoy a good fall color scheme, the rich tones aren't represented in a lot of other crafty lines, so I really dive in when it comes to documenting fall.

What I think really gave this layout a nice fresh look were the circles. I managed to use some products I hadn't touched before mixed with some beloved favorite leftovers. Dusting off a few of my paper punches was also a nice change from some of my other pages that are simpler in terms of tool usage.

The texture and organic shapes of these clusters really made it fun to work on. I need to work with circles more often, I think! Do you work with circles a lot on your pages?

Sometimes a small title is all you need. This simple one made from Pinkfresh Studio alphabet stickers was the subtle vibe I wanted. Paired with the business from all of the other elements in this cluster, it still holds the position for prominence.

Bloom Through It All // Summer of Stories - Episode E

Fair warning, these pictures show acupuncture needles, so please be aware! For Episode E I decided to talk about ears?! What a weird topic to pick! This will probably be my one and only scrapbook page about ears, but who really knows. This Summer of Stories episode is a little bit different than the others since the title of this page doesn't have to do with the associated letter! Which is perfectly okay. So don't let your title stop you from joining in on this fun adventure.

I featured a lot of papers from the Blue Blooms paper pad. But I also pulled in a little bit of Maggie Holmes Carousel 6x8 paper pad.

I think my favorite part of this layout are the diecuts that I pulled in at the end. The Pinkfresh Studio Be You ephemera were so perfect! I loved the copper accents to give the layout a bit of shine. And this quote works well on this page!

Little details like paper clips and resin flowers really give a layout a lot more dimension and texture. Plus an extra pop of pink never hurt anyone! Focusing on using the clusters to help balance the pre-printed portion of the paper was important.

Although the paper layers are simple, the diecuts really shine. Keeping the clusters simple, but a good-size was an easy way to dress up the layout. This layout did not take me too long to complete, but I did struggle with creating a title.

Dome - Interactive 12x12 Layout Process // Summer of Stories - Episode D

Happy Thursday friends! I'm back to share a new episode of Summer of Stories! Today we're exploring Episode D. Now, this layout is drastically different than the Episode C layout. This simplistic layout truly lets the elements speak for themselves. But it emphasizes the fact that the supporting elements still help drive the design.

As you can already tell, D is for Dome. I had the change to tour the Capitol Building on a visit to Washington D.C. It was one of the best tours that we ever went on in D.C. and it was free! I would highly recommend it. Check out my process video below for more details on the layout and the tour.

Besides having a unique style and a unique story, this layout is also different because of its interactive element. Many of you know that I love including memorabilia on to my layouts and this was no exception. Pamphlets are harder to work with because you don't want to glue it down, in case you want to read the last page!

I came up with a washi tape design that would allow the pamphlet to still be viewable on all pages! If you didn't catch the process video yet, know that this layout finished off a roll of washi tape, like what?! This layout may be simple, but it packs an elegant punch! I hope you enjoyed this page. Cruise Down The Harbor - 12x12 Layout Process // Summer of Stories - Episode C

I am SO excited to share this page with you all today. I adore how all of it came together. The basis of this layout is an easy way to use your 6x6 papers. I hope you get to try it out soon. Now this layout looks really complicated, but it is a simple monochromatic color scheme. To simplify this style even more, I suggest starting with a plain cardstock base and skip the patterned paper. But if you're a pattern loving junkie like me, the more patterns the merrier!

The process video below explains a lot of the design process and decision making for this page. If you have any questions feel free to jot it down in a comment and I'll be happy to answer it.

This layout was severely lacking in dimension. Once I had included this little drink umbrella it helped create more texture and depth. I added a few wood veneer pieces as well to continue the wood feeling.

This title gave me a little bit of trouble. I knew the title would go on top of this striped paper, but I could not decide what font I wanted to use. Once I saw this set of black and white thickers, I knew I had to use them! I haven't touched these and find them rather difficult to use. I thought why not add more busyness to this layout?!

The bottom right of this layout is my favorite cluster ever! I just love all of the bits. It covers so many different brands with different colors and textures, I adore it!

Here's the final page! I love the black border, the little bits of washi tape, all of the colors, I love it all! I hope you certainly enjoyed this episode of Summer of Stories and I would love to see you work on a 'C' Story soon!
