I used heavy weight white cardstock from Darice to reduce the amount of warping with my mixed media. I used a bunch of Heidi Swapp color shine sprays to give a watercolored look. It is also very pearlized in some lights. I used the color patina, ocean, and mint during the packaging technique. I also used the color tea to make some splatters.


Once the mixed media was all dry (which took forever!), I started adding layers behind my photo. This photo is of my pup as a pup! It is a really cute Snapchat filter that recognized his face. I layered the photo on top of some white cardstock and then some blue solid colored cardstock. I kept the layers simple since I wanted the background mixed media portion to shine.


To the right of the photo, I used a Basic Grey washi strip. I created a cluster using a Fancy Pants die cut from their Office Suite collection, some Michael's washi tape, and some Echo Park enamel dots. One thing that I almost forgot to mention was that I used the Heidi Swapp tea color shine around the border of the entire layout. You can see it more clearly in the picture below.


To balance out the bottom right half of the layout, I created a small element for the top left. It is actually part of a Project Life card (3x4) from Michael's that I cut apart. I used a Recollections date stamp to add the date. I used Staz-on ink to get a great impression. There are also some more Echo Park enamel dots scattered around.


Lastly, is the title section! I used another 3x4 card (cut into an oval) on some foam. I used another label from Fancy Pants. I also used a Pretty Little Studio die cut ("love") as another component to layer. I hope you enjoyed this layout! Hello friends and welcome back to my blog! I have a fun mixed media project to share with you this week. I think that everyone likes a little bit of a challenge to stretch their creative muscles. I like to do pick 5 challenges where I challenge myself to use things from my stash on one layout. It is an easy way to get certain items used up or tried out for the first time!


Once I was done messing around with my gelato background, I used the Echo Park stencil to add more texture. The Heidi Swapp gold texture paste does not match her color shine line (as you can see in some of the photos). However, I wouldn't say that they necessarily clash either.


I kept my embellishing very, very minimal on this layout, as I do with most layouts. I wanted the background and the photo to take center stage. Once I add my journaling it will look a little bit more full as well. This butterfly die cut piece is from the We R Memory Keepers Flower Girl collection. It was the perfect color and fit the theme wonderfully.


One of my favorite elements of this layout is the weave looking background behind my photo. If you watched the process video you'll know how I pulled off this little secret using the 6x6 paper pad. This technique will also be featured in my 6x6 Fix series on my YouTube channel.

I started this layout by grabbing four 6x6 patterned papers. I used pieces from Crate Paper's Notes and Things, KI Memories' Berry Celebration, Pebbles' Valentine's Day Collection, and Prima's Pastel collection. Mixing and matching papers is so much fun for me. Once I had them picked out, I cut them into 5 inch frames. Feel free to make your frames any size you would like! This layout has a base of gray paper from Oriental Trading. It is super thin, but I love this shade of gray. I laid my frames into a diagonal pattern, but you can do so many different arrangements! Maybe I'll do an overlapping one next! For the red frame, I decided it was a little too plain. To add some pizzazz, I used my Amy Tangerine piercing kit to add some hand stitching. It is by far from perfect, but I like it.


Then, I worked on the bottom left cluster. I started with an Elle's Studio tag die cut, a We R Memory Keepers floral die cut from their Flower Girl Collection and a chipboard piece from Dear Lizzy. These are the main components of this cluster. I also added a Cosmo Cricket clear sticker, two Jillibean Soup word stickers, and a couple Echo Park enamel dots from their Metropolitan Girl collection.


I balanced the bottom left cluster by creating a cluster to the right of the photo. This cluster revolves around another We R Memory Keepers die cut. I put this one on some foam to give it dimension. I used another Cosmo Cricket clear sticker to tie in the other one. Lastly for this cluster, I added more matching enamel dots.


You'll never guess what one of these layers behind my photo is! The polka dot pattern to the left of the photo is actually a piece of packaging from the Target dollar spot. I loved the polka dots a lot and they matched my color scheme well. So, I used that, a yellow scrap, and a Freckled Fawn doily to make a beautiful photo layer set.


To complete this layout I needed a title! This one perfectly describes the photo and aligns with the journaling I added later. I started with a "favorite" sticker from Jillibean Soup. Then, I pulled out a set of pink chipboard/canvas American Crafts thickers to spell "toy". Finally, I used Heidi Swapp glitter letter stickers to spell "her". My first tip before even beginning this type of project is picking out a color scheme. I went for a classic red, white, and blue, but you could use all one color or maybe some pastels. It's all up to you. Next tip, be aware that putting all of the letters down is what will take you the longest time. I am not kidding you this coordination of letters (I know, it's a masterpiece) took me at least 20 minutes. Once this section of the layout was done it was all smooth sailing. If you guys would like other ideas on how to use up those leftover letters let me know! I have a full process video below and some up close photos.



In the video, you can see that I sped up the letter laying section up a bit so it went by faster, but it did take me a long time. I was meticulous with my placement though, I didn't want the same letters next to each other and it to look sort of random. There are plenty of other versions of layouts like this on the internet for your inspiration as well!


I used three alphabet sets to do this fun method. One was a Thicker set from American Crafts, another from KI Memories and the blue set is from somewhere I can't remember, haha. After I laid all of the letters down, I took to some paint! I used white acrylic paint as an additional layer behind where my photo will go. I also watered down the white paint to put some splatters around the page. The splatters add contrast against the otherwise bland kraft background paper.



I created an embellishment cluster to the bottom left of my photo starting with a Tim Holtz label sticker. I also added an Elle's Studio star sticker, an ampersand from the leftover alphabet sticker sheet, and a heavy metal arrow from Michael's. This cluster ended up coming together so effortlessly. Do you ever get the feeling that you set yourself up for success by accident? What I really mean by that question is do you think that having a messy desk promotes creativity? Just kidding! (Although I'm sure it probably does for some people).


I titled this layout "Cat Nap?" because I swear my dog thinks he is a cat. He loves our cats and definitely wishes he could follow them in to the tight places around the house including under coffee tables and couches. He also particularly likes their treats. I knew this story would have a lot of journaling, so I included a pocket from Hobby Lobby's Paper Studio line to keep a tag in.


Lastly, I finished off this quirky layout with a couple of navy buttons. I really like how they add yer another textural element to the alphabet cluster. That sums up this layout guys! I hope you enjoyed the video tutorial and try it yourselves soon! Thanks for stopping by!

This layout started with a really old piece of Stampin' Up paper with green and white stripes. I used an old-fashioned print bag that I cut and used as a border. Then, I used washi tape from Scotch and ribbon on the side of it as well. I layered my photo on some Crate Paper patterned paper to add contrast.


My favorite part of this layout is the title cluster. I have been hoarding these wood veneer scissors for far too long and I'm glad I finally got some use out of them! I also used a clipboard cut out from Crate Paper, a Heidi Swapp glasses stamp, and a Pretty Little Studio label to complete the cluster. The title is a little bit wonky, but the first set of stickers are from Joann's and the second set are from Jolee's.


This fun cluster to the left of the photo is simple, but it's where I plan on journaling. I used a cork speech bubble sticker from Oriental Trading and a Paper & Spool flair. I think that the flair perfectly captures my cat's emotions, haha! I wasn't quite sure what to write in his speech bubble yet, but I'll fill it in.


Last, but not least is the cluster to the right of the photos. I loved this banner sticker from Freckled Fawn and paired it with a faux stamp sticker, and a burlap heart from Simple Stories. Hello everyone! Welcome back to my blog! I'm sharing a video tutorial today on another example of how to bash those 6x6 paper pads we have. This technique requires a lot of cutting, but it's definitely worth it. This is also probably my favorite layout (or one of my favorite layouts) this year thus far! This layout features a paper from Echo Park's Reflection Collection designed by Lori Whitlock. I wanted to stay with natural tones to keep with the theme of the photo. This photo was taken when my boyfriend and I went to a nature center on a lake. It was a great time and this is the first photo from that day that I've scrapbooked! I'm glad to finally have one in the album. I hope you enjoy the tutorial below and if you have any questions let me know!



I used my new Amy Tangerine stitching set to pierce the holes for all of the letters. Then, I used some black embroidery floss to stitch them to life. This giant title was really fun to complete. I have a secret love for typography and it's fun to play with so many fonts. I used a set of Webster's Pages Painted Passport block letter stickers for the small words, Freckled Fawn's puffy white alphabet stickers for the second set of words and lastly, I used a set of American Craft thickers to finish it off. Whenever you're mixing fonts you'll want to be aware of color, size, and type of font.


These rub ons are so adorable! They add just a touch of shine which this layout desperately needed. They are Project Life brand and they may not be available anymore because they were a gift to me. I scattered several different rub ons all over my layout and even one directly on top of my photo! The photo above is also a great close up shot of the triangles that I cut. I just mixed and matched the patterns so that they flowed nicely. All of the squares measure 1 3/4" x 1 3/4".


I should have called this the quilting technique, but it isn't a true quilt pattern either. This technique however is very flexible for any page size, not just 12 x 12. Plus, you could put the squares diagonally or vertically for a couple of more unique layouts. Overall, this is one of the easiest 6 x 6 bashing ideas yet!


I created a small cluster in the bottom left to help balance out the photo and title. I used a stamp from the Scraptastic Club on some of the same patterned paper. I put that on fun foam and layered two Pretty Little Studio labels behind it. To complete this cluster, I used some Bo Bunny jewels from the Modern Miss collection. I really liked the softness that this metallic green added.



My photo is mounted on the same patterned papers that I used on my layout and I managed to sneak a piece of fun foam in there too for more dimension. I wanted a journaling spot on this layout so I used a Pretty Little Studio label and put it next to my photo. I paired that with a flair that reads today, again to bring some of the black over to this side. I wanted even more contrast, so I grabbed my Tim Holtz phrase stickers and picked a few out.

The background paper is a piece of patterned paper from Basic Grey's Fact & Fiction collection. The ledger like pattern had some yellow and orange elements along the top and bottom edges. I didn't really like that color scheme at the time, so I used another paper from the paper pad to cover that up. The green adds some grounding and a pop of bright color!


I created a small cluster in the bottom left of this layout to create some interest. I used a scrap piece of yellow patterned paper from DCWV as the base. Then I layered a scrap of ribbon from American Crafts, a rub on from Studio Calico, a wood veneer heart from Studio Calico, and lastly an Elle's Studio sticker. The varying colors and textures in this cluster make it very appealing to the eye.


While the paper layers are fairly simple around the photo, I knew I wanted to have a build out of a cluster to help the title rest on something. So, the photo is layered on top of white cardstock, some yellow patterned paper, and then some really cute DCWV bird patterned paper. To the right, I included a ruler border sticker from October Afternoon and another chunk of the ribbon I mentioned earlier, but this time I pleated it. As for the cluster that I built to the left of the photo, it is based on a giant kraft colored journaling spot from the dollar store. I layered a Martha Stewart green sticker, an Elle's Studio blue banner, some Jillibean Soup wood veneer flowers, a Hot Off the Press deer stamp (stamped in Tuxedo Black Memento ink), and a 7 Paper tiny word sticker. Yeah, there are a lot of elements in this cluster!


I wanted the cluster to mainly help the title feel like it wasn't floating as much. I also knew that I wanted the colors to relate to the title. I used some Target chipboard alphabet stickers and then some really old Studio G round alphabet stickers that really help give the layout a playful feel. One thing I truly love about using lined or striped papers is that my title is always straight! ;)


I created one last cluster in the top right of this layout to really help balance the layout. This one is made from the rest of the kraft label, a Jillibean Soup hexagon sticker, an Elle's Studio "yes" banner die cut, and an Elle's Studio tiny word sticker. The layout begins with two patterned papers. The small blue and white border around the edges is a piece of patterned paper from DCWV's Green paper stack. Which in all honesty is probably circa 2009. Glad I have finally put it to good use! The green patterned paper is from Craft Smith's Sea Glass paper pad. I love the texture on the papers of this paper pad. It's hard to describe, but they are textured, but have a smooth like finish.


I have two main cluster points on this layout and a few minor ones. The one to the left of the photo was one that just sort of fell together, This layout is a perfect example of my favorite color scheme to work with. I used a bow from American Crafts DIY Shop to pull in more florals to the page. To document the date, I used my ever favorite Teresa Collins tiny number stickers.


 Some of the die cut bits I used are from Dear Lizzy, Pebbles, and Joann's. I think that variations in shade adds a lot of depth to a layout. While there isn't much dimension in this cluster, the little bits of it that are there (like the wood veener umbrella by Jillibean Soup and absolutely adorable cat flair from Paper & Spool) really are emphasized.


I needed a decent sized cluster to help balance the title and the cluster to the left of the photo. I opted for a cardstock banner based cluster this time to bring in more of the navy patterned paper from DCWV that is also layered behind the photo. I used a Heidi Swapp puffy sticker and some more floral pieces from Pebbles to make it cohesive. The title on this layout is made out of three different fonts. The first word is made using K and Company alphabet stickers, then I used Teresa Collins stickers, and lastly these huge and puffy American Crafts Thickers. Perfect for this rainy day layout I think!


If you've possibly stuck around this long, you've probably wondered what the heck the story behind the photo is. My cat Ted here is not a brave man. He is quite the opposite. While he is very timid, he still loves going out on the deck with us when he can (under close surveillance). One day he was crying and crying at the door to go out for a nice breath of fresh air. Little did our kitty cat know that we were in the middle of a huge rain storm. Just one of those funny moments I wanted to capture. I hope you enjoyed this layout, Thank you so much for stopping by!

First of all, this layout brings about so much summer bliss when I look at it! I loved this day at the beach with one of my friends. Although summer isn't here currently, you can apply this fun technique to any type of layout! I love versatile techniques because they are always dependable to get through layouts when crafty mojo has disappeared. See the video below for the whole process from start to end!



This technique can be used with a multitude of shapes, which I plan on showing more examples later in this series, but it is also so much fun! Mixing and matching papers is one of my favorite parts of the process, plus you'll use up some of those 6x6 pads in no time with this idea. I used two paper pads for all of my patterned paper. I used Pink Paislee's Citrus Bliss and Pebbles' Garden Party. Both of these collections have bright, fun colors and patterns.



It took me a little bit of fidgeting to figure out where each circle should go, but once I had them where I liked them, I snapped a photo. That way, when you're moving them to glue them back down you can remember where each one went! It's a great tip for multiple purposes. I put my circles in a diagonal pattern to help draw the eye across the page naturally. I used little bits along the circles like the wood veneer, enamel dots, and word die cuts as a bread crumb trail of sorts. Just a little sport for your eye to rest for a brief moment before moving on to the next one.



I wanted my title to be simple. I didn't want it to be too small, too large or too distracting. I used the American Crafts Fitzgerald thickers in a teal shade that is slightly darker than my background paper. This keeps it well within the color scheme and helps the flow of the page.


I decided to put a small sub title on this layout because I felt that the bottom right side felt very unbalanced. I opted to go with these Webster's Pages block letter stickers for a beach feel. I did a lot of layering and clustering on this layout and I'm liking the vibes of these bright colors! I mostly used the We R Memory Keepers Flower Girl die cut set I purchased at Tuesday Morning last year. I also mixed in some Heidi Swapp tiny word stickers, Jillibean Soup hexagon stickers, Studio Calico teeny tiny heart stickers, and some Martha Stewart butterfly punch outs. The papers around my photo are from Crate Paper's Notes and Things 6 by 6  and Dear Lizzy's 5th and Frolic 6 by 6.


I rarely use colors along this color scheme, but I may have to try it a lot more often. The tiny number stickers you see there are from Teresa Collins. They are my absolute favorite tiny letter and number stickers! I also used a few pieces of the Freckled Fawn pink heart washi tape.


My title for this page is quite a mish mash of pieces that I had. The "happy" portion is from a Doodlebug Designs sticker sheet that I absolutely love. I mean, come on, that script font is so fun! I popped that portion up on foam dots to add extra pizzazz. Beneath that, I knew I wanted to add a little but more to the title. I dug through the die cuts and found this small green tag. I used that as a base for the second portion of my title which is made out of super old Making Memories alphabet stickers.


My last little cluster is in the top right hand corner. This was to help balance out the other two clusters on the page and the bottom and top halves. To make the layout feel like it wasn't running off of the page, I used a light green cardstock as a border around the edges. I hope you enjoyed this very loud layout, haha.
