Yay Otter // Card Creations

April 04, 2017

Hello crafty friends! Welcome back to my blog. Another week and it's time for another otter card! I had an order come in for some adorable birthday cards and I had to flex my creative muscles with this otterly adorable stamp set. I began with an 8 1/2" x 4 1/4" piece of 110 lb. cardstock which I scored at 5 1/2".

The main component of this card is in fact the background piece that I stamped. Now, in this MFT stamp set comes two wave stamps. I used my stamping tool to help with the arranging and the straightness of all of the little waves. Once they were all stamped and I was happy with the pattern, I moved on to adding a bit of color. I used my Reeve's water color pencils to add some movement under the waves. I put a small bit of color along the entire wave and then with a slightly wet brush, I smoothed out the color.

I used black cardstock strips on either side of the stamped piece to add contrast and frame the main background. I also used the water color pencils to color in my little otter. Something different about this little otter guy is that I stamped him first on kraft cardstock. Starting with a base of brown helps when I add texture using the colored pencils. I also had to add some cute rosy cheeks!

I placed our little otter friend on top of a partial doily to help give contrast. Then, I stamped my sentiment from Whismy Stamps in Memento black ink on to a cork sticker from Oriental Trading. To finish off the front of the card I used some enamel dots from Echo Park to jazz it up.

Next, I finished up the inside of my card. I kept the sentiment simple so it could be used for a variety of types of people. These stamps are also from Whimsy Stamps. I hope you enjoyed another otter card! I always have fun working with these cuties. Thanks for stopping by!
