Otterly Lost // Scrapbook Blessings Club Monthly Challenge - Stenciling
March 07, 2017
Hello everyone and welcome back! This is a very exciting post because I have a very exciting announcement! I have recently joined The Scrapbook Blessings Club as a Design Team member! I'm super excited to work with this group because there is so so so much inspiration from card making to bible journaling and everything in between. So come on over and join us for this month's challenge which is stenciling! Enter this challenge by hoping over to our Facebook group to see the prize up for grabs! Now let's jump into this card featuring stenciling!
I believe that stencils are some of the best tools to collect because you can use them forever and forever! On this fun card, I used two different stencils. The pipe like design is from Art C (picked up at Tuesday Morning) and the triangular design is from Teresa Collins (which I found at Joann's). I used two different methods for my stenciling. The middle stencil section is a hard stencil. I wanted extensive color so I layered layers of distress ink.
Once I was done stenciling the main section. I used two Scotch brand washi tapes to bring in some pink. I then stamped these adorable otters from My Favorite Things. I cannot believe how cute they are. I used my Hampton Arts Stamp Perfect tool to get dark impressions with my Staz On ink. I lightly watercolored them with gray and fussy cut them out!
What I really love about the Art C stencil I used is that it had adhesive on the back. This made it so much easier to make heavy layers of ink. Distress inks are particularly great for this method because the color will keep intensifying. So, the more layers you add the more vibrant it will become. I did a very light stencil pattern with my triangular stencil to add a subtle pattern to the background.
I also really liked the color combo of this green and pink. I used a Recollections pink doily behind my stenciled cardstock. I also included some Michael's brand enamel dots and Darice white sequins scattered about. These help move the eye along the page.
Lastly, I wanted to give you guys one more fun stenciling tip. Mimic the stenciling on the front of your card on the inside as well! This makes it really cohesive and pulls it together. I also stamped an MFT sentiment on the inside. I hope you guys enjoyed this super cute card! Come join us on the stenciling challenge and be entered to win!
