VIDEO: Adventure is Out There // 12x12 Mixed Media Layout Process
November 04, 2017
Hello everyone and welcome back. Today's layout process video is an accompanying page to a layout that I posted about a week or so ago which you can find here! They use the same color scheme, but still have completely different looks. This layout design was heavily inspired by Kira Ness who has such a talent for creating texture and interest on layouts. I would highly recommend checking out some of her beautiful pages for inspiration.
I start this layout by picking out my background. This yellow ombre piece is from DCWV's Mini Album Paper Stack. I used the b side of the Fancy Pants Dream Big collection patterned paper that I featured on the other page as another large album. I made sure the direction of the paper was correct (the arrows pointing up) and glued it down. I also did a cool little fold technique to add some more interest and to break up the solid dived line. This is my favorite feature of the entire layout.
The two photos of this layout are kind of special. We visited this mine in late spring of 2017, now scrapbooking this memory in late fall, I have come to find out that the main exhibiting building burnt down. While I never took photos inside (gift shop, safety videos, etc) I'm glad I have this snapshot of the outside during the last time we visited. Sometimes it is very important to document your surroundings since you never know when they might change abruptly.
I elevated the smaller photo on some fun foam to give more dimension. I created a cluster on top of the photo using this Simple Stories diecut banner as a base. I layered a Simple Stories canvas star and various sequins on top. There is a thin strip of Scotch washi tape peaking out from under the photo layer.
I wanted to create an embellishment cluster that spilled out of the folded paper edge. To do this I created a sprinkling to the top of the page. I used more of the Simple Stories canvas stars, some Studio Calico wood veneers, and Project Life wood veneers to start.
My title is made of mixed media! This was made using a stencil from DCWV and some Heidi Swapp modeling paste. I paired it with a small embellishment cluster using a floral border sticker from October Afternoon. Next to that I created a cluster using a Jillibean Soup tag sticker and a Crafty Pocket flair piece.
I hope you enjoyed this layout process video. Be sure to check out the accompanying page that I shared a couple of weeks ago. Thanks for stopping by!
