I kept the clustering simple. The cluster to the left of my photo is mainly made out of wood veneer and die cuts. The feather is from Paper Studio and the heart and bird are from Studio Calico. I used a date label from Chatterbox under the photo layers.


As a simple layout, I tried to keep a lot of elements simple including the title. This acrylic piece is from Elle's Studio. I love the quality and dimension of their acrylic pieces and would highly recommend!


I made a similar cluster in the top right of the layout. The long sticker is from Carta Bella and the main event is this adorable cloud flair from The Crafty Pocket. I paired it with another bird wood veneer and a Tim Holtz phrase sticker.

My photo was layered on several pieces of patterned paper, mostly from Kaiser Craft's Finders Keeper line, but also some Simple Stories and Echo Park mixed in. I created a small cluster at the top of my photo with a hidden journaling pocket. The yellow tag and pocket are from The Paper Studio. Some other stickers like the puffy hear and "here" banner were added as a fun detail.


I didn't want to have too much weight at the top of my photo, so I created a cluster at the bottom portion too. This cluster is made up of a cork label sticker from Oriental Trading, a resin globe from The Paper Studio, a yellow resin heart from Clique Kits, and a flower from Recollections. I can't believe I used fabric flowers on this layout! It has been too long. You'll see some more sprinkled through the wreath too.

I did a very simple one piece of paper photo mat under my photo. This orange and white pattern is from Studio Calico's 6x6 paper pad for the May 2015 card kit. I picked that up during their Black Friday sale. I also layered a tag behind my photo. I was determined to use some of my orange twines on this layout and even if it is just through a tag hole, it is better than nothing. I think I might try my hand at making a Stretch Your Stash episode featuring twine!


My title is supposed to read "3 Awesome Grads", but some people might jump over the giant 3 and read "awesome grads" which is still pretty cool. The "awesome" word is a sticker from Jillibean Soup. Love the shade of orange, even though it is a little bit yellow-y compared to the other shades, but it still works on the overall page. The word "grads" is made from some American Crafts Dear Lizzy enamel alphabet stickers. I like the texture combo these two types of stickers give to the title.


As for embellishments, I went a tad crazy! I used so many different things and all over the place. It is a really fun and festive layout without a super Halloween feel (I hope!). I did some cascading techniques with my embellishments again. I utilized wood veneer stars, star stickers from Pretty Little Studio, sequins, and Tim Holtz phrase stickers.


I think orange is a very loud color. Luckily for me, it is also my college's color which makes using orange elements a lot easier. My clusters on this layout were generally large. The one on the 3 has a large American Crafts foam star, a flair from The Crafty Pocket, various puffy stickers, and of course sequins.


I am so happy to have used one of these Basic Grey banners. They have so much texture because of the felt and wood combo which makes them so unique. I wish companies would produce more unique elements instead of the mainstream kind. I love variation and some fun surprises! I added pops of orange around this banner by using a Heidi Swapp "grateful" sticker and a Studio Calico vellum star. This layout was super fun to create. I usually don't use such large elements and that made it extra fun! I hope you enjoyed this episode of Color Theories!

I created a small cluster to the bottom left of my photo. Since this is a monochromatic layout, I needed to have various textures and styles to make it truly interesting. I used a Kaiser Craft camera cut apart, a Freckled Fawn flair, some resin flowers, a couple of Tim Holtz tiny word stickers, an American Crafts Thickers asterisk, and some puffy hearts from Target, Recollections, and Amazon. As you can tell there are so many different textures and dimensions here that your eye will sit there a little bit longer to take all of it in.




I love how my title came out, despite it being different that what I originally intended. I used two types of American Crafts Thickers paired with a puffy sticker from Pink Fresh Studio. The pink number "2" is the Ladybug Patchwork design and the word "hearts" is from the marquise style. Mixing and matching fonts is one of those little things in scrapbooking that I like to experiment with! Do you like to do this or are titles not exactly your fav? I'm not too great at coming up with titles, but making them look nice is my specialty!


I decorated the area around the title with a bright red doily from Recollections. I used little bits and bobs like my resin flowers, puffy heart stickers, and tiny word stickers to add a little more interest. I try not to crowd too many things together near my title since it is supposed to pop on its own.

American Crafts 310521 Paige Evans Oh My Heart Icon Chipboard Thickers 45Piece Chipboard Icon Stickers

I started by using the back of an ugly piece of cardstock and applying Dina Wakley clear gesso. Gesso helps the pigment of your mixed media items sit on top of the paper and stay vibrant instead of soaking in. You just spread a thin coat on to your paper and let it dry and then you can apply as many mixed media items that you want. This also helps with the warping of paper, but it doesn't completely prevent it.


I used several items for the rainbow mixed media portion. I used hot pink Heidi Swapp color shine, a red gelato, an orange gelato, butter Heidi Swapp color shine, patina Heidi Swapp color shine, ocean Heidi Swapp color shine, navy Heidi Swapp color shine, and lastly a purple gelato. You can easily do this method with watercolors which is probably a more cost effective route.


To create this effect, I first marked a circle on my background on where my photo cluster would be. Then, I started with hot pink and put a glob of liquid on the edge of the circle. Then, using a straw, I lightly blew the color out to give this radial look. I didn't let each color dry before moving on to the next which gave me a blended look in some spots which I liked a lot.


I printed this photo as a 4x4, but it actually just squished down my 4x6 which I didn't expect, but I made it work. I mounted the 4x4 photo onto some light gray cardstock. I put some foam behind it for extra dimension as well. I used a Freckled Fawn square doily to add some frill. My title for this layout is actually from a Simple Stories diecut piece that says "Yup..this is the good stuff" which I absolutely love. I also included a flair from Freckled Fawn to the left of my photo.

I have never used a layout style like this one with three square boxes, but it is one that I really enjoyed working with. So, you'll probably see this type of layout again! I cut both of my photos to 4" x 4" which was the perfect size on a 12" x 12" layout. I also included a Paper 7 journaling card as my other piece to complete the triplet. However, I think this would look so fun with three photos as well. The photos are matted on some black and white patterned papers from KI Memories. Let's jump in to the full process video and then I will share more details after that. Enjoy!


The clusters around each section are based on top of one doily. I never thought in my life that I would have used as many of these black doilies as I have. They actually say trick or treat on the other side. I have yet to use these guys on a Halloween layout, but it might've been the best Halloween product I've purchased yet!


The cluster for my right adjusted photo is also the title piece. I used a Jenn Hadfield puffy sticker that reads "adore". I suppose I never really finished my title though, maybe I'll go back and change it. It seems unfinished the more I stare at it. I also included a Teresa Collins chipboard banner, a Freckled Fawn chipboard word sticker, some Fancy Pants gold puffy dots, a puffy sticker from MAMBI's Happy Planner line, and some puffy heart stickers. There are a lot of puffy and chipboard items on this layout!


At the bottom of the page I used another Teresa Collins chipboard piece and a Freckled Fawn one as well. I also included a Tim Holtz phrase sticker. You can also see in this photo that I included a border sticker on the bottom of my page. This vertical striped piece is from Teresa Collins' Hello My Name Is collection. To complete all of my clusters I sprinkled some Heidi Swapp color shine in gold.


Lastly, I created a cluster in the top right. I used similar things, but also included some Teresa Collins' 3-D stickers and a Jenni Bowlin flair badge. My white cardstock background took some rough mixed media on it. Although I did gesso my paper, it wasn't the highest quality and I did saturate it with water. It's weak and curling at the edges, but it's still alive! I used my watercolors and the packaging technique to achieve this look on the background. If you don't have the color paper  you want, why not just create it? I love how it shoes so many different textures while still being flat and workable. You can see some streaks, puddles, and marbling in the background. If you do plan to do mixed media techniques on your background, be sure to have paper towels and a heat gun on hand. Otherwise, you'll have a mess everywhere and you'll be waiting a while for dry time. I used a stencil from the Wild Whisper shop and some gold modeling paste for additional texture. My tutorial is below in this video, but I also have more details to share with you.


The hardest part of this layout was the embellishing. I knew that I didn't have a lot of purple in my stash and I could've made some more purple elements, but I wanted to think more outside of the box. I ended up using some wood veneer from Maggie Holmes for my title after I had painted it purple using acrylic paint.


I created a cluster around my title piece by first layering a small white doily underneath my title piece. I also layered a small gold patterned tag from Joann's under the right side. I tucked an arrow paper clip from Freckled Fawn to add more emphasis. To complete this cluster, I used sequins designed by Spiegel Mom Scraps for Wild Whisper and some gold sequins.


Next, I dove into some washi tape! I have a ton, ton, ton of purple washi tape and I have no idea why. I used one gold washi tape to help ground my layout. I put a long strip at the bottom of my page. I also included a short strip under my title piece (which you can't really see),and a strip under my photo. I layered my photo of my cute cat on some light purple patterned paper from K & Company.


This layout is simple, but the purple background really packs a punch! Do you find yourself scrapping with purple often? I decided that perhaps picking something that obviously went with this green challenge would make it easier, it did not. I felt that the green background was hard to match to the green on the Playbill and I didn't want them to clash. I really need to evaluate the greenness of my stash! Below is the process video and I hope you enjoy!


So, after realizing that this was going to be very hard, I decided to keep it simple. A lightly textured background to add a little interest without causing distraction ended up working the best. This paper is from the DCWV Spring Stack. I layered a couple of papers behind my main photo from various places. One is from a baby paper stack, the other is plain cardstock.

I think that keeping things simple on this page was the right way to go. There were a lot of different sized items to work around which was also hard. I placed a white shipping tag on top of the pocket to make a place for my journaling to live. I decorated it with Tim Holtz stickers and Freckled Fawn enamel dots.

Happy International Scrapbooking Day! I hope you all get to get crafty at some point this weekend! It's important that you make time to be creative in whatever form you like best, not just on special days. Today, I am bringing you a new Color Theories lesson! This week as you can tell, is all about orange. Orange is not my favorite color, but it is the color of the college I attend.


The story for this page is actually from a very impulsive series of events. I go to a school that is huge on hockey. Throughout my time here, I haven't attended a ton of games, but I wanted to change that. So, my boyfriend and I went to three hockey games in one weekend. There was one Friday, one Saturday, and one Sunday and we attended them all. It was fun and I wanted to document them all on one page. So, let's jump into my process video and then check out Ariana from The Crafty Ways video!


Once I had everything pulled out, I started making cuts. Some of the black papers I pulled out weren't the same shade of black which bothered me, so I put those ones aside. Then, I took a sketch from the Spiegel Mom Scraps iNSD Instagram challenge. I drew a lot of inspiration from that sketch to do this layout which really guided me.


I really love the way this came together. Although this is also a Halloween like color scheme since there aren't any ghouls or goblins, it doesn't give any of those vibes. My main point on all of my layouts is to play with textures. It is the part that I love the absolute most!
