VIDEO: Color Theories Series // Yellow Monochromatic 12x12 Layout Process
February 10, 2018
Welcome back! It is that time of the week where we dive in to another Color Theories Episode! This week, Cynthia and I are tackling the color yellow. You might want to wear some shades because my layout is very bright! I didn't intend for it to be this loud, but I'm glad it is! Let's jump right in to more details.
I got to use some of my favorite things on this layout. I started by pulling out some dies from my stash. This Sizzix leaf set is so awesome, although it can be difficult to cut with my messed up cutting plates. I used a couple of different papers for my leaves. The yellow one is from Kaiser Craft and the white one is from Studio Calico. I did this prep before I really started diving into the layout.
The lovely diagonal background paper is from Simple Stories Life in Color paper pad. Whenever I need some bold color it is the first place I check. The background itself has a lot of color variance in it that has a kind of watercolor look. Once I had my photo picked, I started arranging my leaves in a semi circle shape.
My photo was layered on several pieces of patterned paper, mostly from Kaiser Craft's Finders Keeper line, but also some Simple Stories and Echo Park mixed in. I created a small cluster at the top of my photo with a hidden journaling pocket. The yellow tag and pocket are from The Paper Studio. Some other stickers like the puffy hear and "here" banner were added as a fun detail.
I didn't want to have too much weight at the top of my photo, so I created a cluster at the bottom portion too. This cluster is made up of a cork label sticker from Oriental Trading, a resin globe from The Paper Studio, a yellow resin heart from Clique Kits, and a flower from Recollections. I can't believe I used fabric flowers on this layout! It has been too long. You'll see some more sprinkled through the wreath too.
My title was fairly simple, but I wanted it to be bold. I used Studio Calico Kraft alphabet stickers and Freckled Fawn whit puffy alphabet stickers to created my title. Around the wreath you'll see some other elements sprinkled in. I used the fabric flowers like I mentioned earlier, some burlap butterflies, and enamel dots to add various texture and dimension.
This Color Theories Series is one of my absolute favorites! Monochromatic layouts can be really hard sometimes, but I hope this series is helping! Don't be afraid to mix in some other neutrals, it can really help make it a little bit easier. don't forget to check out Cynthia's video! Thanks for stopping by!

I have a layout to post on your Facebook page for the yellow challenge but I can't find the right spot. Am I looking right at it? That wouldn't surprise me. :)
