Happy Thanksgiving everyone! I'll be celebrating Thanksgiving with my family today, but I have this post scheduled for you, just in case you don't celebrate.
We're kicking today off with the last installment of my Thankful Thursday series which is also the last day you can enter for my giveaway (NOW CLOSED)!!
We're diving into the holidays now and I'm sharing with you how I altered a bird house into a gingerbread house! This is a really simple and unique project that the kids could do without all of the icing and possible mess of a real gingerbread house.

We're diving into the holidays now and I'm sharing with you how I altered a bird house into a gingerbread house! This is a really simple and unique project that the kids could do without all of the icing and possible mess of a real gingerbread house.
Some supplies you might want for this DIY include a bird house (mine is from Joann's), paint, twine, stickers, glitter, glue, scissor, and more! The possibilities are really endless with this project, so whatever inspires you, go with it! Products that I used or you might like to use will be listed at the end of this post.
I began my bird gingerbread house by painting the whole thing with some brown acrylic paint. I recommend painting on two coats to make sure it's even when it all dries.
Then I began decorating! I had a lot of ideas running through my head, but I settled for the classic gingerbread house colors of red and white. Using my favorite twine that I found on clearance at Michael's I used some glossy accent to attach it around the outer edge of the top and bottom of the bird house.
Once the twine was secured on the top and bottom. I pulled out my white acrylic paint and my teeny-tiny paint brush to create the scalloped roof. Another really cool idea would be to use white dimensional paint (puffy paint) to make it look like real icing on top!
This Thankful Thursday idea was inspired by how thankful I am for having such a lovely home and family. Often times we forget how many people wish they had homes or even a warm blanket and it's important to remember this. So, on that note I hope you all have a lovely Thanksgiving and holiday season! :)
