VIDEO: DIY Winter Treat! // Hot Cocoa Cubes

January 02, 2016

As all of the holiday celebrations are coming to a close, I think it's about time to get into the winter spirit! Today, I bring you a way to get a little more cozy this brutally cold winter season! All of your friends will think these are the cutest treats they have ever seen. So, whip out this quick and easy DIY if you're throwing a party or even if you have some kids coming over for a play date. They are the perfect addition to any setting.

You'll need very few things for this DIY treat. You'll need some chocolate to melt. I used milk chocolate, but if you're a dark chocolate kind of person, go for it! I'm not exactly sure how white chocolate would work for this, but let me know if you try it. You will also want a chocolate melter, a double broiler, or a microwave to melt your chocolate. Just be careful not to scorch your chocolate!

You'll also want popsicle sticks, spatula, a spoon, an ice cube tray, sprinkles, marshmallows, and other toppings of your choice. I think it would be cool to add peppermint or caramel to your cubes!

Once you have your chocolate to a smooth consistency, you'll want to use a spoon to scoop it into the mold. I found that almost all the way full was a good height, but it's up to you. The next part is the fun part! You can now add in any toppings you want, personally I thought that the marshmallows looked the most festive, but use whatever you have on hand. Also, don't forget to add your popsicle stick!

Once you let them sit in the freezer for about 15 minutes or in the fridge for about an hour, they will easily pop out of the ice cube tray. I'm not sure if a silicone ice cube will function the same as the plastic.

These are the beautiful cubes I ended up with at the end! Now all that is left is to test them out! Of course, we always like our hot chocolate made with some hot milk.

So grab yourself a nice festive cup, or a cat one like I did and heat up a glass of milk. Then, simply stir in the hot cocoa cube and your hot cocoa is complete!

Here's my video showing you step by step! I hope you enjoyed this post. Be sure to let me know in the comments below what you put in your hot cocoa cubes to jazz them up!
