VIDEO: Close Encounters // Pick 5!

July 26, 2016

Welcome back friends! Today it's time for another pick 5 video! This one was really fun for me to do! I sometimes feel like that my layouts are too simple and don't have enough layers, but on this one I am quite proud of the amount of embellishments I used on this layout. I still need to work on using more paper because this one is a tiny bit sparse, but I'm getting there! Here's the overview of my layout.

Today's pick 5 features a stencil from Folk Art, a label sticker sheet from My Mind's Eye, the Craft Smith 12x12 Sea Glass paper pad, Tim Holtz paint dauber in the color Broken China, and an American Crafts rub-on pack. Let's get on to the process video!

The title was the hardest part for me in this layout adventure. I did everything else first and was left desperately searching for a title.  I don't know if it's because I don't have a lot of fonts I like or if it's because my stickers are so disorganized, but I hate trying to find titles recently. It's not that I don't have a title in mind, I know exactly what I want it to say, but I don't have the right letters in any of my fonts it seems like!

I ended up settling for some green Recollections alphabet stickers and some block mini alphabets from October Afternoon. To give the title area a little bit more pizzazz I added a wood veneer bird from Studio Calico. For my top left cluster, I started with punching out this phrase "cool stuff" from the paper pad cut apart sheet. Next, I went through some of my old stash and found a green tab and some chipboard leaf pieces. I decided to use my Tim Holtz paint dauber on them to give them some color. This cluster also features a Darice gem, a Studio Calico wood veneer arrow, some black thread, and an American Crafts rub-on.

I wanted the bottom right cluster to help balance out the top left cluster so I use repeats of some of the same elements to give my layout some cohesiveness. So, to achieve this I decided to use this green tag in the same color of the tab, the same chipboard leaf, the same thread, and the same jewel, but to add interest I also included this My Mind's Eye label sticker and a Simple Stories tiny word sticker.

I decided that I wanted one more cluster to balance out the title section (although it would've looked fine without it). I used another piece of the cut-apart sheet and another wood veneer arrow to complete it.

That pretty much sums up this layout guys! I hope you enjoyed this design and the process video. I love doing pick 5 videos because it challenges me to use up my stash while giving you something entertaining to watch! I'll have product links down below in case you're interested!
