VIDEO: Easy DIY Shaker Pocket // 6x8 Pocket Page Process
September 23, 2017
Hello friends and welcome back! It is finally the weekend which means I am sharing a new process video with you all! This pocket page layout turned out to be a lot more than I first anticipated. I went from having a simple and clean layout to a mixed media and shaker pocket layout! I think that it really gives the page a fun element. Let's dive right in!
This page is another addition to my travel album. My boyfriend and I went on a trip to Pittsburgh and I'm finally trying to finish documenting it as one of my New Years Scrappy Resolutions. I am happy to report that I am finally to the final day of our trip, but still have 100+ photos to get through. Below is the process video for this particular layout, but I have a ton of my previous pocket page process videos over there as well. I hope you enjoy!
A simple DIY shaker pocket is always a nice addition to any little layout. This one was a quick makeshift version using old packaging, washi tape, and staples. It definitely sounds a little bit odd when I list it out like that. I am very fond of using old packaging in new ways since it would otherwise go to waste. The card that is paired with this shaker pocket window is from a Heidi Swapp Project Life kit. It came with some fun watercolor cards cut with different shapes. I simple used a lot of water and some watercolors to get this psychedelic, soft look.
I included sequins from several places in this shaker pocket. I used Wild Whisper, Spiegel Mom Scraps, Kat Scrappiness, and Darice. There are so many sequin shops out there, but I try to support as many as I can with my addiction. If you would like to know where a specific one came from I would be happy to tell you. To complete this card I used a giant red puffy heart sticker and some Tim Holtz tiny phrase stickers.
The other two pockets of this layout remained simple. The shaker pocket is the star of the show here. My top right pocket features a photo of the sign for the donut shop we visited. Then, the last photo is a beautiful photograph of what we ordered! The donuts were yummy, but I don't think I'm a fan of a hot donut. I prefer my donuts room temperature instead. I used two Elle's Studio label pieces to created a little cluster. I added a wood veneer and a puffy heart for some dimension.
This simple, but very fun layout was really cool to see come together. I normally don't plan out my layouts in advance and truly appreciate the organic path that my creativity takes. I hope you enjoyed watching my process! If you have any questions don't be afraid to ask. Thanks for stopping by!
