VIDEO: Ink Blending with Makeup Tools...? // Floral Thank You Cards!
June 11, 2016Oh my goodness! Hello again! I have a very exciting project to share with you all today and it involves saving money and discovering new techniques! I have a video explaining it, but don't worry I'll have a similar explanation below as well. I ended up making a card with the outcome of my ink blending and really love the way it turned out.
If you couldn't tell from the title, I did a lot of ink blending, but not with the ordinary tools. I used makeup sponges. They come in a variety of shapes and sizes, but they are super inexpensive and you get a bunch in a pack! You can find the ones I used in the video at Target, but they sell them at all drugstores and other stores as well.
So, basically I created three different styles of flowers in the video using the two inks. I picked out an orange and a yellow because I already knew they would blend well together. Usually you start with the softest color when blending, but I tried it both ways and loved them. In the video, I show you how the different blending orders make the flowers look different. When picking out your blending colors be sure to have a color wheel to assist you, or ask a friend if you're unsure! If you try out any projects using this technique, please let me see your projects! You can tag me on Instagram or comment my name in one of the FB groups I'm a part of. :)
There is so much room for experimentation with this technique! Especially since it is so cheap to buy "refills" (aka more makeup sponges). I think the favorite flower I created was this large one on the first card. Plus, these die-cut flowers were sent to me in a RAK probably about 6 years ago!! About time I used them, don't you think? I'm hoping to use some other colors on the rest of the white flowers I have. In my next video I use this same technique, but on a layout, so stay tuned!
To add some fun to the card I used some yellow ribbon, dimensional adhesive, and some black sequins. I also happened to use my Cuttlebug for the first time in forever and used the classic Swiss Dots embossing folder.
This little stamp was on clearance at Tuesday Morning and I have no idea the brand or anything. Just a cute little wood mounted stamp. I stamped it in my Staz-On black ink. I made another card using the flowers that I had leftover too. Both cards just scream summer time and sunshine!
This is a secret card I made for my boyfriend while he's out of state. I can't wait to send it to him! He loves a great shaker card! This sentiment is from Hero Arts in their Trees, Birds, Messages & More set. Thank you so much for stopping by! I hope you enjoyed this new technique and will try it soon. If you do try it, I would love to see it! Tag me on Instagram or Facebook @GrayFlorals!
