Family // 12x12 Layout Share

Ahhh..the feeling of the holidays approaching is in the air! I hate to say it, but snow will be coming sooner rather than later, but I don't mind! Today's layout is the first of many for this month that have a family theme. The holidays are the perfect time to get together with family and that is why I chose this month to share these layouts. Let's jump right into it!
This layout was inspired by the color blocking trend that I have seen in a few paper collections and also by a layout that I saw by Kelly Oblak on Facebook (in the nicolejones911 group). Her layout featured a solid colored cardstock blocking pattern similar to mine seen here. So, I took that idea and ran with it! I grabbed a piece of 12" x 12" white cardstock and then a kraft 8 1/2" x 11" and lastly a wine colored 8 1/2" x 11". It took some fidgeting to finally get them to line up as seen here. Overall, this is a really great technique to use up your colored cardstocks!
For the title and the top left cluster, I took inspiration from a gray, pink, and wine colored outfit I saw the other day. These chipboard letters from October Afternoon go perfectly with my chevron fabric tape. Then, these lovely flowers that I took off of cupcake toppers are the exact color I wanted! To add a few extra details, I used two Fancy Pants labels from the Office Suite collection to write the date.
The main photo cluster mimics the top cluster fairly well. Since I used the same elements (the labels, the flowers, the tape, and the pearls), there is a great cohesiveness to the piece. I also used this Teresa Collins word card to bring in the deeper wine color. I think that the main attraction of this entire layout is the double layered doilies. This adds a very dainty touch to a rather heavy and dark layout.
My photo of my siblings and I is layered on to white cardstock and then onto a floral paper from Prima's Retrospective 6x6 paper pad. I hope you enjoyed the first autumnal/family themed layout of the month! I have more to come and so many exciting things for this week! Thanks for stopping by!
