VIDEO: Paper Pads: 6x6 Fix // Smitten - Grid Technique
November 05, 2016
There's something so pleasing about a grid layout (especially when it turns out straight). This easy 6x6 Fix technique brings you that pleasure! There are many types of grid layouts and today I am focusing on a 9 square design. I hope to explore other grid designs using 6x6 paper pads in the near future, but I thought we could start with the simplest first. You'll want to grab a few different sheets of 6x6 papers that all coordinate. Then, we're going to cut those squares into quarters or 3" x 3" pieces. Once you're all cut, you'll want to decide on a desired placement. It took me a while to determine which colors should be next to each other, but I finally nailed down a pattern that I enjoyed.
Once you have your desired order, the hardest part comes next...you have to glue them on straight. I used my t-square ruler to attempt to get the straightest lines possible. If you wanted to add more detail to the layout some stitching around each square or even inking up the edges would add another pop. I like the simple look personally. Check out my process video below for even more details and a look into my process!
I layered my photo of my adorable kitten on a piece of white cardstock and then some beautiful gold foil polka dot tissue paper. The tissue paper adds a lightness that the page needs to brighten it up a bit. Next, I worked on the left side cluster. This cluster uses a new to my stash product from Prima. These three flowers are an absolutely perfect fit for the color scheme I had selected.
I layered the flowers on top of the photo and managed to slip a doily under there as well. Like I've said before, what kind of layout would it be if I didn't include a doily?! Do you all use doilies as often as I do? I love how they add a softness and a different shape to the layouts I make. The glitter on the center of the flowers is also a nice touch to the layout.
I slipped some of my new labels from the We R Memory Keepers Typecast Collection as a base for this tiny word sticker to sit on. This tiny word sticker is from Simple Stories Carpe Diem. There's also plenty of these gold pearls sprinkled around the page. I also included another gold element in this cluster, but towards the bottom left. I tucked a canvas gold dipped tag to add more texture.
The elements on this layout were inspired by a challenge over at the Paper Issues Facebook Group. It was a fun challenge and I encourage you all to go check them out because they have fun prompts! One of the items I chose from their prompt was hand written journaling. I included this on my layout by using a sticker from Crate Paper. It is the perfect shade of pink to coordinate with the colors in the papers.
To complete this layout I needed a title. I settled on using this "smitten" sticker from Amy Tangerine and as much as I wanted to use the rhyme "smitten kitten", I decided against it. Then, I sprinkled some gold Heidi Swapp Color Shine over various portions of the layout to add more shine and sparkle. I hope you enjoyed the second installment of my 6x6 Fix Paper Pad series! This has been such a fun adventure for me and I hope it's fun for you all too! Thanks for stopping by!
