Stop and Smell the Roses // 12x12 Layout Share

Welcome back! Today, I'm sharing another layout with you. This one is featuring a cute and sleepy kitten. I wanted to use some of the papers from the lovely DCWV Blush Paper Stack. I was also inspired by a mood board challenge over at Pretty Patterned Paper Playground on FB! So, be sure to check out that group run by the lovely Evi and Katty. I know that this is a really poor crop of this overview of the layout, but there are even pink side panels on each side of the kraft base. I kept this layout really simple because the gold foil on all of the papers is a little overwhelming and I didn't want to add more things just to fill up space. After all, white space is a good thing and allows the eye to rest.
All of the foiled flowers surrounding the photo I had cut out of a piece of patterned paper from the same paper pad. This is a great way to make your papers go an extra mile. I used some foam adhesive under some portions to add even more interest and dimension to the floral cut outs. This adds a ton of detail into your pages without doing a whole ton of work. I used a lot of different mediums on this page to achieve the multitude of textures and dimension variation that I wanted.
In this little snippet of the layout, you can see that I have cork, cardstock, foil, puffy stickers, and chipboard. This adds so much detail and it's so easy! Mix and match textures and you're half way there! Layering the elements is also important so they meld together and seem cohesive.
I did a teeny tiny bit of mixed media on this layout using an Echo Park vine stencil with some modeling paste from Liquitex. Stenciling is a great way to add some fun to your layout if you don't have a lot of die cuts or just want some organic shapes on your layout. The one thing I don't love about stenciling is I always have to plan where to put it. So, I usually make my photo base and then plan out where to stencil and make small marks on the layout. What is your stenciling process?
I had these die cut butterflies from Jolee's Boutique in junction with some wood veneer butterflies to add more interest and dimension. I don't know what it is, but I absolutely love wood veneers! I'm tempted to use them on every layout, but I somehow refrain from doing so. ;) Do you like to use wood veneers on your projects a lot?
I ended up using a simple pre made title for this quick layout. This title comes from the cut apart sheet in the DCWV Blush paper pad. I wanted a little something to fill up the extra space on the piece, so I added this gold foil key piece. That finishes up this layout!
