Snuggles // 12x12 Layout Share - Incorporating White Space

May 24, 2016

I have taken on the white space challenge! I've seen this challenge on multiple groups/sites and decided to take it on myself. White space can be hard for some people, but as a pretty simple scrapbooker, this was fairly easy. Now for all of those that are wondering, white space does not have to be literally white, it is just supposed to be empty space to balance out a busy layout. Here's the layout!

This picture is of me and this adorable cat named Snuggles. He was up for adoption for quite a few months. I'm going to take this opportunity on behalf of Snuggles to encourage everyone to adopt and not shop. It seems that everyone has heard of puppy mills and the horrible things that happen there, but people often neglect that very similar things happen to cats. If you are thinking about adding a furry friend to your family check out your local shelters! Now continuing on with the layout details. :)

I have started with a base of white cardstock and then pulled out some watercolors! I was inspired by a cut apart card in the Dear Lizzy Day Dreamer Collection. It had pretty blue flowers in a watercolor fashion on one of the sides and I just had to give a try myself. The watercolor set I used was actually from the dollar store and it worked great! Don't be afraid to look for craft things in unusual places!

I decided to try out another new technique on this layout and that it the gathered thread look. I don't have a sewing machine at school, but I do have a tiny sewing kit. I gathered up some thread and laid it on the page until I thought it looks nice. Then I attempted to glue it on using my glossy accents. I then added some stickers from Studio Calico.

The layers behind the photo are actually from my scrap bag. I know that the black and white one is from KI Memories, but the gray one could be from a number of designers. I somehow managed to sneak a doily onto this layout! I really need to find something other than doilies to have my heart because I'm running low!

To complete this layout, I used my Studio Calico gray letter stickers to write Snuggles because that's the name of this adorable cat. Then, to balance out the main portion I added a small scrap of the same patterned paper that's under the photo down in the left hand corner. To bring some more silvery aspects to the layout I used this silver butterfly (and later I added silver half pearls). The very last touch was to add some more watercolor throughout by doing some dots of three. I hope you all enjoyed this layout! Thank you so much for stopping by!
