It's All Fun and Games Until // 12x12 Layout Share

August 23, 2016

Hello friends! I am sharing with you a stash busting layout today. I got to use some new things and a bunch of old things! This is one of the longest titles I've ever put on a layout! I highly encourage you all to start experimenting with longer titles. Not only does it use up all of those alphabets that we hoard, but it can really help tell the story. In this instance, I used a common phrase and spun it to work for my story. The common phrase is, "It's all fun and games until someone gets hurt" and spun it into something funny about my cat.

I knew I wanted to go with a crazy color scheme for this layout. Orange and teal are quite the combo, but I think I made it work. The background paper is from Basic Grey Fact & Fiction 12x12 paper pad. I have a stack of random 6x6 papers from swaps or from little bits left over and I decided to dive into those to find papers that would work on my layout. I ended up choosing 3 pieces out of that pile to incorporate on this layout. Two I used for layering under the photo and one is that white and teal pattern strip flowing down the side of the page. I also cut apart a piece of one of the 6x6 pieces to use the fan that was on the paper.

Besides just using up some old stash, I also wanted to incorporate a lot of textures onto this one layout. I thought that this dainty vellum arrow from Studio Calico provided great contrast next to the three brads from my stash. To incorporate this contrasting theme throughout the layout, I also used two washi tapes along side that light teal and white patterned paper to aid in the contrasting theme.

I knew that I had a few bits of orange pieces in my stash that I wanted to try and incorporate into this layout. Some of these pieces includes the little chipboard circle that says you, a star sticker from Pretty Little Studio, a wood veneer heart from Project Life, and a little hello die cut from Elle's Studio. Since my title was going to take up so much room on the layout, I wanted to keep my clustering small, so they weren't competing.

This large sticker is actually from a set from the dollar store. I wanted to find a place for another wood veneer and this camera fit well here. In this photo, you can see some of the splatters I sprinkled around. I used a sprinklers from October Afternoon in Rocket Age.

To complete the layout, all I had to do was stick on this title. The tiny alpha stickers are from Teresa Collins and the round chipboard alphabet are Thickers from American Crafts. I hope you enjoyed this layout with a fun color scheme and long title!
