VIDEO: The Young Scrappers Blog Hop // Adventure Mixed Media Layout Process

August 13, 2016

It's an exciting day! Today, I'm participating in a blog hop! I am an admin over on The Young Scrappers Facebook Group. We would love if you came to join us! https://www.facebook.com/groups/1728820060684965/ This blog hop features young scrappers from all over the world! The theme of this hop is this lovely summer mood board. Be sure to check out blank's project after this one as she is the next destination in the hop! I'll have the complete blog hop list down below as well, so you can check out everyone's projects! Next on the hop is Heather! Check her project out! https://youtu.be/ISO6ZNZA47U

I drew my inspiration for my layout primarily from the top three photos of the mood board. I was drawn to the blues and greens ads well as the water color look. I also was feeling some adventure vibes and that's what lead me to picking the photo to scrap that I did. To begin my layout I prepped some white cardstock with some clear gesso.

While the gesso was drying, I wanted to figure out what papers I wanted to layer being my photo. I ended up choosing two papers from the Pink Paislee Citrus Bliss 6x6 paper pad. This photo and page will be the start of my summer portion of my album. In the photo, my boyfriend and I are on top of a waterfall we hiked on July 4th this year. Below is my process video for this layout and I hope you enjoy that! I'll also have all of the supplies used linked at the end of this post.

I hope you enjoyed watching the process video! Now I will dive into some more details! So, as I mentioned before, this will be the start of my summer section. I used the watercolor inspiration from the mood board to pursue a packaging technique on the background of this layout. In my video, you'll see how I did the packaging technique, which I've explained before, but I will again in case you are new! :) So, I grabbed a piece of spare packaging plastic and set aside. Net, I wet my watercolor palate and dip my brush heavily into it to pick up a lot of color. I try and move the color from my brush onto the plastic packaging. Then, to dilute the color a little bit, I use my spray bottle and mist the packaging. Finally, it's time to smoosh the wet packaging onto the cardstock! That's it! I blot my color off a little bit sometimes and then  let it dry. So fun and easy.

I also went back and added some darker splatters with my paint brush after the initial part was dry. I just dipped my paint brush into the watercolor pan and then tapped it on my finger so it splat onto the page. I knew I wanted to use a few stencils as well, so I dove into my stash and pulled out two. The chevron kind of pattern is a stencil from the Target dollar spot and then the floral stencil is from Joann's and their Buttercream line. I just ran some white gesso through them (since I don't have any modeling paste). I love this white on white look. It adds texture without adding unnecessary color. Once all of that was dry, I start to put everything into place.

I put my photo onto some fun foam so it wouldn't get lost behind the thicker wood veneer title. I then work on two clusters. I started with the bottom right next to the title and wanted to incorporate a few things. I really thought that the tiny word sticker from Studio Calico was perfect since we did take a hike. Then I dove into my wood veneer box and my resin flower box. I pulled out a fee bits from each and decide to use the mini heart and the light mint down in this corner.

To complete the layout, I finish the top cluster by using a Heidi Swapp vellum die cut, a Studio Calico wood veneer bird, and another resin flower. I also scatter some of these beautiful mint pearls from BoBunny around the layout.

Here's the entire blog/YT hop list! I hope you join us and keep hopping around! Thank you so much for stopping by!
