Scrap Your Scraps // 8 1/2 x 11 June 26 Layout Share

Today I have a little something different to share with you all. First off, I wanted to say that I am hoping that this is the kick off of the Scrap Your Scrap series that I would like to start! I think that scraps tend to get overlooked most of the time and scrap papers shouldn't go to waste! Secondly, it's an 8 1/2 x 11 layout! I don't do non-12x12 layouts often, but I think I am starting to like it!
This photo is of me and my friend Maddie at a bonfire a few summers ago. I think that a major design success of this page is the black and white photo against all of the pops of color. Since the photo is so dark, I wanted to include a lot of white space (and I mean, a lot). This is also why I wanted to keep the embellishments from seeming overwhelming.
I pulled out all of the scraps from this color scheme of kelly green, light blue, and orange. Then, I sifted through my punches! I used a 1.5 inch, a 1 inch, and a 1.25 inch circle/scalloped circle punches (I'll have product links down below). So, after a lot of punching, I started scattering the circles in a diagonal direction. Diagonal lines or patterns can give the appearance of motion across a page. Once I had the placement down, I decided to add some black splatters. To create these I watered down some black acrylic paint and flicked it across the page.
To complete the layout, I added this tab sticker from Jot and stamped the date of the photo on to it with my Smash Roller Date stamp in Memento Black Ink. In the bottom right hand corner I made a small cluster using some thin orange washi tape, a Studio Calico wood veneer camera, and a Tim Holtz tiny word sticker. Also, the background for this layout is just some white cardstock. To add the final touches, I sprinkled around some gems and pearls in matching colors. I hope you all enjoyed this layout today!
