Hello everyone and welcome back to the blog! I have been very busy this summer as you all know, but that doesn't stop me from making time to try and craft. Today's card is actually a birthday card for my brother who's birthday is coming up towards the end of the month. I wanted to try out the crayola watercoloring technique again, but I don't think I liked it with the darker colors. Since the pigments are so vibrant, it didn't give me the light brown look I was going for, but I persisted.

This card features the Mama Elephant dog stamp set that can be purchased at Joann's. My brother loves dogs so I thought this would be the perfect set to use. Plus, who doesn't like puns?! I started by stamping my two pups on some watercolor paper. I find that for this technique you need a sturdy paper as you'll be using a lot of water to make the pigment move. Once I had them stamped in Staz-on ink, I started putting down the color. I just used the markers where I wanted the darkest colors to be. You don't need to do too much coloring as the pigment is much richer than anticipated. I colored them in by dragging out water from the side that the pigment was on until my image was complete.


I used the coordinating dies to cut my little pups out and moved on to assembling my card. I used a 100 lb kraft cardstock to make my card base. It is a typical A2 sized card measuring 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" when folded. Then, I used a plaid pattern from the DCWV Pets Life stack as my next layer. I cut this piece to be 4" x 5 1/4" leaving a nice border of kraft cardstock. I pulled out my stitched rectangle dies and used them to cut this somewhat coordinating green cardstock. I grabbed my little pups and the sentiment banner I created by hand and glued them into place. If I could change anything, I would probably have given my pups some party hats because that would've been so cute!
