VIDEO: Best Trail // 12x12 Layout Process Video

January 23, 2018

Yes, I am back with another process video! If you haven't heard me talk about it yet, I am producing extra content for the next couple of weeks in hopes of getting the required number of viewing hours to pass the requirements for the YouTube monetization rules. You can read more about that on my Facebook page. Today's layout is a uniquely styled page with a really fun cascading embellishment section. Let's jump right in to more details!

As some of you may know, one of my goals this year is to use more and spend less. In an effort to support this I've also made some goals including using washi on every layout, finish 3 6x6 paper pad, and 1 12x12 paper pad. This layout luckily uses all of those things! The background is some dark brown cardstock from Color Box. I usually don't do dark backgrounds, but lately I've been using this to pack a punch. Enjoy the process video for this layout down below.

I had been saving this photo to scrapbook for quite some time. It was just one of those photos that captured a day so perfectly and I didn't want to mess it up. I'm sure we all feel that way about certain photos and certain stories, but it's important to document us as much as we can. We are storytellers and we want to get. as many down as possible. Let this be some inspiration to you to scrapbook that one story you keep putting off.

This layout I tried a unique visual elements. I used a cascading technique for some of my embellishments. It didn't turn out exactly as I had planned, but I'm still happy with it. I used various embellishments of various sizes to create a cascade. The leaves are from Recollections and the feathers are from Studio Calico. I sprinkled in quite a few sequins in here as well. There are some from Darice, Spiegel Mom Scraps, and Wild Whisper.

Besides my cascading feature, I also have several clusters and other elements. My photo is matted on three patterned papers. One from Echo Park, one from My Mind's Eye, and another from Kathy Davis. This combo of colors mimics the embellishment selection that inspired the color scheme of the layout. A lot of the elements featured are from the Echo Park Boys Rule 12x12 sticker sheet.

My secondary title is this beautiful sticker from that sheet. I love how this fits with the photo. I used a doily under it to give it a more delicate feel. I made this cluster larger by adding washi tape, a diecut heart from Pretty Little Studio, a Pink Fresh Studio wood button, a wood veneer bird, and a tiny word sticker. Clustering with different elements makes my heart flutter!

The other main element is created from these awesome border stickers. I think border stickers are extremely underrated. They help ground the layout and use up a little bit more of the white space. Plus an extra splash of color is always great! I used the same tiny embellishments to create this cluster. I hope you all enjoyed this layout inspiration! Do you like to use dark backgrounds at all? I'm starting to use them more and more! Thanks for stopping by!
