We're Mermaid for Each Other // Card Creations - Valentine's Day 1

Hi friends and welcome back! Today is the start of my Valentine's Day card series! It is a great day to spread love and send some happy mail! I like to create non-traditional Valentine's Day cards to cater to that person's interests. I have a lot of aquatic lovers out there which makes the MFT Mermazing stamp set perfect for this!
I started by stamping and coloring my images. I stamped the mermaid, turtle, and rock on Canson watercolor paper using my stamping tool and Verasfine Onyx Black ink. I used various colors of my Zig Clean Color Real Brush Pens for coloring in these images. For the mermaid, I used #63 Ochre on her hair, #71 Flesh Color for her face and body, and lastly #31 Cobalt Blue and #82 Purple for her tail and top. My little turtle friend uses #44 Deep Green and #47 May Green. Then the little rock uses #92 blue gray. I trimmed these out once they were fully dried. There's a video tutorial coming soon showing how I like to color these images using my water brush pen.
Next, I created a sea backdrop for my characters. I used more Canson watercolor paper and my Distress Inks from Tim Holtz. I started with Peacock Feathers at the top and blended it downward. Then, I began to mix in Wilted Violet. I kept blending using my ink blending tool until I was satisfied with the color gradient. I wanted to add more detail to the background and decided to do more stamping! I used the same Distress Ink colors and my Versafine. The school of fish are great to build a scene and I used the coral and kelp to add dimension behind my rock. I also decided to add a little more detail by cutting out the back panel using a stitched rectangle die.
I attached my characters and elements using fine line adhesive and some foam dots. I wanted to add more texture to this project and found some old tulle in my stash. I attempted to cut a nice rectangular piece and that did not end well, but I like the jagged edges peeking out from behind the main piece.
To complete the front of the card, I stamped the sentiment "we're mermaid for each other" again using Versafine black ink. For a little extra sparkle and shine, I used various sequins to compliment the front colors. The purple and star sequins are from Spiegel Mom Scraps. For a tiny bit of glitter, I spread some Wink of Stella clear glitter on my mermaid's tail.
To make this even more Valentine's Day themed, I decorated the inside with a lovely phrase. I used a blending technique using my distress inks to get this fun look. I hope you enjoyed this super fun Valentine's Day card! I can't wait to send this out next month! Thanks for stopping by!
