You Are Mermazing // Card Creations - Valentine's Day 2

January 25, 2018

Hello there friends! I can hardly believe how fast this year is already going by! Valentine's Day is only 21 days away, eek! I love to make Valentine's Day cards, especially non-traditional ones. Today, I am bringing you another mermaid themed one because one, mermaids are so cute, and two, because I am still loving my Zig Clean Color Real Brush Pens! So let's dive in to this underwater fun!

This card starts with a normal A2 sized 110 lb card base. I used some Kraft cardstock for this version and scored it at 4 1/4". Once the base is all prepped, the real fun begins! I cut a piece of Canson XL Watercolor Paper down to 4" x 5 1/4".  Let the ink blending begin! I used two of my favorite distress inks. I used the colors Lucky Clover and Peacock Feathers. I used my mini ink blending tool to get a nice blended background. Once I was happy with the coloring, I used some water misted on to the background. I dabbed up the water with a paper towel to get a fun splotched effect.

I set the background aside to start working on the main mermaid! I stamped this image in Versafine onyx black ink and heat embossed it with Wow! clear embossing powder. I like to heat emboss my images so they are easier to watercolor different sections.

I used several different colors of my Zig Clean Color Real Brush Pens for this coloring. I used #71 Flesh Colour for her skin, #65 Mid Brown for her hair, #26 Light Pink for her top and tail, and lastly #47 May Green for her tail and star. I also used a little bit of my Wink of Stella glitter pen to add shine to her tail. All mermaids need some shimmer right?!

I trimmed out my mermaid friend and revisited the background piece. I wanted to add more elements to the background and pulled out this MFT stamp set again. I used the coral and fish elements with my Versafine ink. I created a small scene with them with a perfect spot for this mermaid to swim.

I decorated the outside of the card with some twine and sequins. These lovely sequins are from Jillibean Soup. These are such unique colors for sequins and I am so glad I stumbled upon them on clearance at Michael's one day. I liked the idea of putting these circles of twine behind my mermaid to give a sense of moving water. I finished the front of the card by adding a banner sentiment. I ended up cutting the sentiment stamp in half so I could stack it! This is a great way to stretch the usage of your sentiment stamp sets.

I included another sentiment inside since this is a great Valentine's Day card. This sentiment is so great for year round cards, but so, so cute for a Galentine or a Valentine. I hope you enjoyed this card share today. Do you send many Valentine's Day cards? Thanks for stopping by!
