Oh Happy Day // 12x12 Layout Share

January 05, 2017

Hello friends! Today, I am making a splash with the colors I decided to use on this layout. I was inspired for this color scheme by the paper pad that I selected to work with along with the theme of the page. The paper pad that inspired me was the DCWV Mini Album stack. I absolutely love this stack because it comes with cut apart pieces, papers, envelopes, stickers, and specialty papers. In the layout below, you can see that there is a triangle patterned paper which happens to be vellum that really brought the entire color scheme together.

I started this layout with a very old piece of baby blue colored cardstock and then added this layer of wood grain patterned paper on top of it. Instead of doing half cardstock and half patterned paper for this layout, I decided I wanted 2/3 to be the pattern and 1/3 to be the plain cardstock. This ratio is very aesthetically pleasing to the eye. Going off of that, I knew I wanted a few layers of paper behind my photo.

The vellum was the main section that I wanted to really pop out from behind my photo, so I kept my other layers quite small. The first paper layered behind the photo is from Pink Paislee's Citrus Bliss 6x6, the next paper is from Kathy Davis, and lastly I had this adorable polka dot piece of paper that came with an order from Elle's Studio. If you're looking for any of the products used on this layout, they will be listed at the end of this post if I can find them! Next to my photo cluster on the right, I wanted some more splashes of the color palatte that I am working with. I dug through my washi tape drawer and found these three beauties. They are all from various packs of washi tape from Michael's that are no longer available. These bits again, help bring the entire layout together.

To the left of my photo cluster is where I decided to put my title. While I was playing around with the placement of it, I decided everything seemed a little boxy. To remedy this, I tucked a Recollections doily under the left side of my photo cluster which also helps connect the photo with the title. For the title portion, I originally settled on this tag that reads "oh happy day" from Recollections as well. It was from their watercolor line so I used some October Afternoon sprinklers in the color rocket age to give it some color. One tag by itself seemed a bit plain, so I then decided that I would use this bright yellow tag from Paper Issues to give it a boost. On the left side of the tags I used some more of those washi strips.

At this point of my layout, I though that the title looked plain. A person viewing it wouldn't really know what the layout was about without reading the journaling, so I decided to make it a bit more obvious. I used some October Afternoon block letter stickers in this beautiful teal color to write out "RIT Juggle In". Then, I had the brilliant idea of using one of my wood veneer @ symbols to make the title feel continuous. This layout only needed a few more touches before being declared finished.

It was feeling very, very empty in the top left corner of the layout and since I knew I didn't want to use splatters (because of all the colors), I created a small cluster. I used a cut apart from Elle's Studio to be the base and then layered on top of that. The green diamond is from Elle's Studio as well, then a little die cut from October Afternoon. I included a wood veneer asterisk to be the main focal point of my visual triangle.

Lastly, I made a journaling spot in the bottom right corner of the layout. You can see the wood veneer that completes the visual triangle. The journaling block is another cut apart from Elle's Studio and I included the date of the event under that with my Teresa Collins tiny alphabet stickers. This was one of the most colorful layouts I think I have made thus far! I hope you enjoyed this one and come back for more soon! Thanks for stopping by!
