VIDEO: Pick 5! // If Cuddles Could Cure - 8 1/2 x 11 Layout

January 17, 2017

Hello everyone! I hope you're all doing well. I have a vintage vibe filled video tutorial for you all today. It's actually an 8 1/2 by 11 inch layout using some really old supplies which is not the usual! This is a very sentimental layout which is also why you won't see the journaling because I'm still working on that. Let's jump right in to the overview photo and the video!

These pick 5 series are really super fun and easy for me. They're easy to come up with, easy to film, and always fun to make! I hope you all enjoy this series because you'll be seeing more of it in 2017. If you do like this series or want to make up a list of items for me to use, let me know and I would love to know in the comments! My pick 5 items for this video are a set of brown self-adhesive gems, a Unity Stamp Co. stamp that reads "celebrate everyday things", Heidi Swapp Color Shine in the color tea, a Colorbok paper pad, and lastly, the DCWV Tradewinds mat stack. I hope you enjoy my use of all of these things!

This layout came together fairly quickly and I think it has to do with the paper pad I had selected. It comes with stickers, die cut pieces, and alphabets all within the paper pad. I used the mat stack papers to mat my photo. To give these very similar papers more dimension I inked the edges using my brand new Tim Holtz distress ink.

I made a small cluster in the bottom left of the photo. I used die cut pieces from the paper pad along with a wood veneer dove from Michael's. I wanted this layout to be symbolic, but discrete at the same time. The title really sets the mood for the layout, so I didn't think that the journaling had to be visible for the point to get across.

This title randomly popped into my head while looking at this photo. I thought it had a really nice ring to it. "If cuddles could cure" has a childish feel while talking about a serious topic which I thought would be very important for future generations to look at. The title is made out of the circle alphabet from the paper pad and some gray American Crafts Thickers.

I used my Colorbox dark brown ink to stamp my Unity phrase stamp on some more ledger paper from the pad. I coupled another pair of the jewels next to it as well. I also have a cluster in the top right of the page using a die cut from the paper pack and a wood veneer heart.

I know that a lot of people have trouble documenting difficult things. I just wanted to say that it is so therapeutic, at least for me and that it may be for you. I hope you give it a try sometime and start getting through some of the difficult moments. Thanks for stopping by!
