Sending Saltwater Kisses // Card Creations

February 13, 2018

Hello crafty people! I am finally back with another Valentine's Card! Another untraditional card with the lovely My Favorite Things mermaid stamp set! This stamp set is so much fun to color since mermaids can be any color of the rainbow!

I wanted this one to be a shaker card from the get-go. I ended up starting with a piece of Canson XL Watercolor Paper cut to 4" x 5 1/4". I used two of my favorite distress mini ink cubes in the colors Peacock Feathers and Wilted Violet. I used these around the background to create a dreamy under the sea scene. Once I was happy with it, I used an Echo Park hexagon die to cut out the shaker window. Now we could start building our shaker!

My card base is a normal A2 sized card made out of 110 lb. white cardstock. To create this shaker window I decided to use tulle. Tulle allows for a really texturized and unique look. I simple glued down the piece of tulle as if it was acetate on a normal shaker card. Then, using foam squares I outlined the area of the hexagon. The fun park started when I got to pick out all of the sequins to go inside! I used several brands including Jillibean Soup, Kat Scrappiness, Spiegel Mom Scraps, Darice, and DoCraft. Once full of sequins, I glued it to the card base.

Now that we have the shaker portion done, we can embellish. I stamped and heat embossed this mermaid with my normal methods, then I took my Zigs to color her. I used #71 Flesh Color for her skin, #65 Mid Brown for her hair, #26 light pink and #82 purple for her tail and top. I even added a little bit of shimmer using my Wink of Stella glitter brush pen. To complete the front of the card I added a sentiment. This sentiment is actually from the Aloha Girl Stamp Set also by MFT. I thought it fit along well with the mermaids and the Valentine's Day theme!

Ta-da! Another non-traditional Valentine's Day card. I really love tulle shaker cards since they can be filled to the brim with sequins. And we all know we have too many sequins that need using up! A tulle shaker would be really fun to do on a scrapbook layout too. Maybe we'll see that in the near future! I hope you all enjoyed and thanks for stopping by!
